I've had my EST 150/5 for 10 years and it still gives me faithful service.
I was using it the other day for extended periods, and I noticed that the plug-it lead that fits into the handle of the 150 was showing signs of melting. On close inspection of the socket on the 150 I noticed that one of the pins was discoloured.
I've spoken to Festool UK and ordered a new socket.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before.

Yes, you're certainly not the first to mention this. We've had quite a few topics here already about this problem.

 
Yes, that happens they wear out over time. You should also replace the cord. And check the sockets on the other tool that you used with that same cord.

Thanks guys, is it the cord that causes the problem or the socket in the tool?
