Was curious as to the comparison and so ran a test of sanding efficiency on a piece of walnut I'm working with.  Tested it with 180 and 220 granat (fresh papers on both sanders, and the piece had already been sanded to the grit I was testing), and for both grits, the ETS-EC 150/5 sanded noticeably faster than the Rotex in random orbit mode.  For what it's worth, I was able to sand the area I was working on in an average of 34 seconds with the ETS-EC 150/5, and with the RO150, an average of 56 seconds.  Obviously not a large sample or scientifically controlled study, but I was surprised to find out how much faster the ETS-EC 150 is.

That's interesting.

I'd expect the opposite, given that the Rotex is heavier and near double the wattage, with the same stroke.

It's what I expected.

The ROTEX performs multiple tasks and is heavier. It's just like a multi function farm horse competing with a young filly at the races.

I have the ETS EC 150/3, and for a finishing sander, I'm very surprised how powerful it is. I honestly don't use any other sander anymore. Doesn't matter what grit paper, I leave my CT 26 on full suction and the sander just glides over the workpiece. I genuinely love this tool and I actually look forward to sanding now - a task I always disliked previously. May sound strange, but it's true...

Probably has something to do with the RO150 being 6800 and the ETS EC150 10,000 on the stroke speed too.  [wink]

For me the game changer and time saver is the instant off. In production this alone is make the ridiculous CDN price worth it.
