ETS125 with a temporary different plate and pad

Hi to everyone in the group,
I have a ETS125 sander and I was wondering if it's possible to install the plate and obviously the pad of DTS400 or RTS400 sander on it.

The ETS 125 is designed to rotate besides just orbit.  Neither the DTS nor RTS rotate.

I could see possibly kludging together a way to put a DTS onto an RTS or vice/versa, but I don't see a viable path to putting either one onto an ETS in a serviceable manner.

No, you don't want to do that. You need a round pad on a sander that rotates.

I see your point, let me ask you just one more question, please.
In your opinion for a border sanding is better a ETS movement or DTS/RST one?
I mean, to working on the edges and straight borders of a table which one do you recomend?

Well, I'm not squall, but I'll give you my opinion for free this time, the rotation of an ETS combined with the softness of the pad can cause roundovers when you go over an edge, and that's not desireable. You do not have this problem with the linear motion of a DTS or an RTS. The pads of the last two are harder too.

If you have a hard pad on a rotating sander it is not that much of a problem either. But unfortunately in all their wisdom, Festool decided not to make a hard pad available for the ETS 125.

the only sander to attache it will be the ETS125 with a medium pad...how can I manage?

I believe the newer DTS & RTS sanders attach to the positioning aid. Here's a DTSC attached to it.

I think the issue is that the pad/sandpaper on the DTS & RTS doesn't rotate, thus potentially shortening the life of the pad and the sanding abrasive. That's obvious in this 2nd photo.

I think Alex or Coen probably know that answer...I'm just always confused with Festool nomenclature.

In Festool nomenclature it means this:

E = Electronic control, which means you can adjust the speed electronically.
Q = Quick, which means it has a Plug-it cable.

R = not sure exactly, but they add it to all their updated models so I guess it means something like "Revisited".

They use these for all their tools.
