Euro Cabinet Edge banding

Ive searched for answers but have not been able to find any....

I normally build face frame cabinets. This next project would lend itself to go more euro style cabinet boxes with full overlay doors. Doors (and rest of project) will be sprayed SW Dover White. How do I get the edge banding on the euro cabinet boxes to match the Dover White? The only real way I though of was to spray 1/4" or 1/2" thick strips (23/32" wide) and then apply (glue) them to the boxes.

Am I missing something here? How does a larger production shop deal with euro style cabinets, edge banding and custom colors...

Thanks Tom. That’s great info. If someplace is doing a true custom color do they just get the closest color possible in edgebanding since 99% of it is unseen?

I found the Dover white edgebanding through that link you sent but it’s only available in 600’ rolls. Way more than I need.

What would be your suggestion for a small amount? Just make my own, 1/4 or 1/2” thick, spray it, then apply to the boxes?

If it is a small amount, I spray the edge banding to match the doors. Sometimes I do it loose and apply, sometimes when on the box. Mood dependent.....

Hi,

I primarily build face frame cabinets.

When I do build frameless, I apply 3/8 inch hardwood for edge banding.  I just think it is better to have real wood.

I paint the wood before applying.

There are times we have fabricated cabinet parts with the edge-banding applied, and sprayed the pieces unassembled.
Tp protect from overspray we tape and paper the inside of the cabinet. The upside is the edge-banding matches, the downside is you have to work extremely carefully when assembling. These projects get biscuits and glue, all biscuits are pre-cut.

You will most likely find in the long run, by the time you screw around making the banding, finishing and applying, that its cheaper to buy the 600 FT roll. Unless this a hobby job with no edgebanding machine.

Normally with solid wood edge banding I apply it wider than the width of the material being banded and then trim it flush with a router.  I guess you could mill and paint the banding at the exact same width as the sheet goods, but lining it up for gluing sounds like a hassle.
