Thanks for the info and video.

My router table is pretty good and it has a designed storage place for it and the thickness planer.  Adding it to the table saw would take up more space. But thanks for the suggestion.

Moving on to padding the rails, that is an EXCELLENT suggestion.  That should go a long way to protecting the cars and other equipment.  I'll be implementing that immediately!

This evening, I rethought the idea of cutting off the rails.  While looking at the saw without the fence and with the blade totally withdrawn, I realized that it was a nice TS55 cutting table for breaking down ply.  If necessary, a couple of side stands could be added for some cuts.

I would not cut the rails yet. Give it a few months before doing so and move the car outside while you are working. If it is that close you don't want it to be covered with saw dust or hit by a long piece of lumber.

First, welcome back to posting.  I was remiss in not posting earlier.

Congrats on the new saw.  I would echo the comments about not cutting the rails until you know what you want to do.  Padding would be great but might be hard to achieve and also allow for quick and easy removal and reinstall.  An idea might be to locate pvc pipe that would cover and then pad the end of that.  Basically a padded saw scabbard.

I agree. I'm not going to cut off the rails until I have a clear idea on direction. And I'll try your scabbard idea.

Hey Dan.  I have a bandsaw rail that sticks out and is very uncomfortable if I or anybody else bumps into it.  I cut off the top off a pop/pep bottle and wrapped the protruding extension with bubble wrap and slid the pep bottle overtop just to make it safer.  You may want to try something similar yourself with your extension arms so as to not ding a car.

Alternately, I have thought about using some neoprene to do the same.  Basically sow a sock of sorts with the neoprene over the bottle.  Kinda like one of those beer bottle/can coolie holders, but for your extension arms instead.
