Fein Drill Bit Holder Wobble

Anything to be done about excess bit wobble? With the adjustable chuck the bit is straight as an arrow. With the bit holder: 1” is fine, 2” bits are very shaky and 3” is basically unusable. Any advice?

Seems the bit holder has trouble securing the "E6.3" (ball detent) type bits (2", 3") properly. Also no wonder they will wobble when placed into the quick-change connector directly. It's probably not meant to take the "E6.3" type this way.

I guess they wobble too (bit-holder/quick-change connector), when you try by hand with the drill shut off?

Normally I would add that bit's are not the best indicators of run out, but in this case - with them running straight when chucked - it's obvious that the bit's straightness is pretty much not the problem.

PB Swiss, for example, makes long bits with C6 type shaft. ->https://www.pbswisstools.com/en/too...079735&cHash=44be50363d9c942a93226e2441d2a50e

BTW: Adorable little shop-helper you got there.  [big grin]

Kind regards,

Yes at first I thought my bits might be bent but I tested that option out.

Do you think using the c6 style will help? I could try acquiring some of those.

Yes my little helpers, they don’t help a lot but they are fun. I’ve dedicated a day off of work per week to be with them.

I would get one C6 type long bit and try - especially before "investing" in PB Swiss. I think that will solve the problem.

But I would definitely also dispatch an e-mail to Fein, and ask about it. Is it supposed to lock "E6" type as secure as "C6" type bits - or not? Because I'd say, that the moment you leave the 1"/25mm range for 2"/50mm or 4"/100mm bits, it's the "E6" type that is most commonly found in those lengths. I guess you'd have to search thoroughly to source long "C6" type bits locally. (I honestly wouldn't know a single (brick and mortar) store here that could sell them to me over the counter upon asking for them.)

So there is this 1% left telling me, it might not be supposed to wobble like that, and maybe a warranty replacement for that Fein QuickIn bit holder is in order?

Besides that, other owners could chime in, if it's the same for them. Would be sort of an answer also. ;)

Oliver

Thanks for the useful information. Honestly I had no idea there was two bit styles until now. I’ll search my wera and wiha bits and see if I have any. My woodcraft sells Wera I can check if they have that style.

I have reached out to Fein. I had to pay about $50 to have that bit holder shipped from Germany (Amazon.de) so I have been disappointed in the last few months of use. I’ll see what they say and in the meantime I’ll try to find a c6 bit.

I haven’t found a lot of Fein 12v users for as great as they are. I am in the USA where Fein doesn’t have a huge presence.

Thank you.

Hazet makes a T25 & T30 in their  „2223LG“ Version. Around 65-70mm long.

Might be a first try for some C6,3. if it works, no issue following Oliver’s recommendation and shelling out your money for the PBSwiss set. ;)

Uh!
And the Stahlwille 1427! Almost forgot! ;)
That would be T25 in 65mm with the C6,3 shank.

...only limited drive options, due to the fact that these are really special bits for automotive applications for Mercedes and BMW.

But maybe KCTool or someone else stateside has one of those...
