We're rebuilding the front porch on our farmhouse.  2 days before the backhoe was set to arrive to dig the footings I got the "Gee honey wouldn't it be nice to have a light post out in front"  So I rushed down to our local electric supply and picked up a nice solid cedar post.  It's March and around here the weather's still too cold to paint it outside.  Wanting to get it sealed and painted before those April showers, I needed a way to hold it upright without anything touching the sides.  I came up with this idea using our old Chirstmas tree stand.  We've years since gone artificial but I knew I'd have a reason to keep the stand around.

This is the 2 piece kind that allows you to install the cup around the tree while it's still laying on it's side.  You step on a pedal to insert the whole thing into the stand.  You can straighten the tree before you take your foot off the pedal.  It made it easy to remove and lay down on the bench to sand between coats, then reinstall to paint.  Not visible because it's inside the stand, there's an 6" x 4" wide tenon turned at the bottom of post that fits into a 24" piece of PVC drain pipe and you just shove the drain pipe into wet concrete.  Very nice.
I must say, I only was able to use my ETS150 to sand the flat sections.  A lot of hand sanding on those curves.
It's a Festivis miracle!

I think Frank C. would be impressed.  I find the tinsel distracting.
