Festool buying spree!

A router table is really one thing that you can pretty quickly put together that with the right elegance added can do everything the big price tag router tables can do. And really for Box joints and the like I find it nicer to use dedicated templates.

For me, I would not sink the dough into a cms router table and nothing really to do with the cost. If I saw it as filling a need I'd not hesitate to drop the clams but to me a router table is one thing you make yourself. Like those tracker guys that make their own knife as part of like a right of passage.

I had a corporate router table for many years until I became enlightened. Now I can't say I'm lacking in creating anything I need to on a top made from some MDF and cherry ply scraps and jig parts from reidsupply.com. with dust collection (may not be as good of dust collection as the cms of course but it also stores up on a top shelf and takes zero floor space when not in use fuhgheddaboutit)

IMHO relinquish to your higher power the desire for the cms and ditch the DeWalt and FOR SURE buy the kapex.

I'm weak.  I want it all.  Damn this addiction.

For what it's worth, my thoughts:

- Build your own router table to drop into the telescoping bed of your table saw - it acts as a fully supported outfeed, you can use your existing fence and it lives in the same area the saw already occupies. Costs a few bucks and fine tune it to exactly what you need

- Domino and cutter kit and seneca domiplates - learning / coming up with things to make with that will keep you busy and fend off the demons for a while

- cxs or C15

- Just get a good blade for your existing dewalt miter and try it out, dust collection will still fail but give it a shot for a hundred or so $

Keep the left over $ and save it and more for the next round of must haves - the joiner / planer / bandsaw / + an addition to expand shop for the next round

Have fun!

I think AofD should consider a Rotex - as he is a hobbyist then the RO90 comes to mind as it is so versatile. I am not sure why he is bothering with the Syslites unless he regularly does work in his crawl space (ours used to be full of snakes in the Canadian summers).

I agree that the stand alone CMS base is the way to go. I used a home made router table (that needed to be attached to my MFT) for a couple of years and it was a pain. With stand alone kit you have more flexibility, especially in a small shop. Also, it leaves you free to position the MFT as an outfeed table.
