Festool classes at Festool dealers?

I've been looking at the Festool classes but while they are reasonably priced and look really good, once I factor in travel and lodging, they become way more expensive and take more time away from work to travel.

Has there been any discussion at Festool USA around putting out the classes as a curriculum that dealers can use to have Festool classes at their sites or maybe do traveling classes where a trainer goes to different locations around the country and holds training classes?

Just a thought...

Im not sure if this will help you or not, But festool demo's at the various dealers are pretty god in that the rep there can answer all your questions and demonstrate and let you play with the tools to o whatever you want to learn.

Also festool reps are available to help you. They've been known to go to your shop and let you try tools, demo tools etc. Ive called Allen and He is awesome.

Go to the festool use site lok at the bottom for festool regional days, put in your zip code and it will pull up the demo days.

In Touch Tools at Palm Springs last Dec had something like what your talking about. Some of the FOG guys whent and had a good time.

I went to a Festool end user class, It was great being trained by Steve on cabinet making and I plan on going to a Intro class next month. Im also going to a Regional a festool demo at a local dealer and a Katz roadshow in a few months.

The info is out there.

But to tell you the truth, The main reason I went to the end user class was because I was having some difficulty in calibrating / adjusting the MFT3 and the parallel guides .

I couldnt get a square straight cut for the life of me. Steve helped me with the issue and more. I could of called a factory rep and he would of helped me with my issues.

I plan taking the as many of the classes I can because, well they,re fun and informative and I like talking to the other Festool afficiandos. PLus for me its a cheap vacation. BIL/SIL live in LV so I can take the family , stay there and make a mini vacation out of it.

Plus its just plain awesome walking into the holy shrine (festool training center)

But back to your post , all of my questions that I had could of been answered and helped by a local festool rep

Jim,

As Sancho57 mentioned, the dedicated Festool Dealer in Palm Desert, CA (In-Touch Tools) hosted a full day cabinet construction class taught by Steve Bace, assisted by Allen Kingsley. Steve is the original Festool trainer. Allen has been the Festool rep for Southern California and surrounding area for many years. This Palm Desert event was one of the first such classes.

Apparently the results were positive. I see similar classes led by Brian "The Sedge" Sedgeley are happening in the Mid-West and East at dealers.

The classes in dealers are slightly different than at the Henderson, NV and Lebanon, IN Festool Training Centers. In the Centers the class is limited to 6 participants, so it can be mostly hands-on. All trainees sign an insurance waiver.

The class in Palm Desert was a sophisticated demonstration. Still, it was Steve and Allen doing the demonstrating. During breaks they did coach participants.

I don't think the chains like Rockler and Woodcraft are really equipped to do classes like that. It's possible that some individual locations would be able to host them, but my experience with their sales staff has been that some of them know their stuff, and some don't. And some will recommend Porter-Cable routers, because they're cheaper.

Perhaps not every Festool dealer will host classes trained by Steve Bace and Brian "The Sedge" Sedgeley. That is a loss for non-participating dealers.

Of course Steve and Brian only have so many available dates to conduct classes at dealer stores. They have increased the number of End User classes at Lebanon and Henderson. They also train dealer employees at the training centers, and appear at woodworking trade shows.

During dinner one night back in 2010 when both Steve and Brian usually trained the same class the 3 of us compared travel schedules. In my movie making career I was away from home a lot. The conclusion we reached was that each of them is away from home more days a year that was the case for me. Fortunately Steve and Brian love what they do.

Dave Reinhold may be no Steve Bace, but his Tats are sick. One of the most enjoyable parts of demo days and Festool Connects are meeting guys who have a similar passion to you. Sharing in there personal experiences with Festool tools can be as rewarding as the demo itself. Eric

That should be Dave's new signature line, "I'm no Steve Base." [poke] [big grin] [big grin]

I wish Tool Nut was a little closer, I'd love to attend Dave's demo.

Were glad those who attended our Training Class last December enjoyed it, we appreciate the feedback. We want to host another training class soon, and hope to host one once or twice a year thereafter, if Steve Bace and Allen Kensley’s schedule allows it. The Palm Springs area is beautiful, and a great place to spend the weekend with the family. We’ll be sure to post something when we have a date for our next training class.

Sancho, i got my camera in the box van, could maybe even do some video with my iphone. BTW not being as good of a presenter as Steve Bace or Brian Sedgely, the two best in the business, is hardly an insult. Dave is gonna do just fine Im sure. I am personally vowing not to heckle Dave until after the show is over. Eric

Eric Buggeln has arrived at the Nut. $60 in gas roundtrip, Peter James taking you out to breakfast, priceless. Eric

I hope everyone has a great time and good luck today Dave. [thumbs up]  Be sure to post pictures guys.

Looks like a good time was had by all! Eric, my pleasure for the eats - least I can do to get you down here! I wasn't there for the actual presentation, but knowing Reinhold, I'm sure it was fantastic. He knows what he's doing and can clearly present himself and his techniques so anyone can understand. It's always exciting for us to have events like this one.
