Hi Everyone,

I have a potential small asbestos contamination in my basement and am considering purchasing a Festool CTH 26 vacuum to rectify the situation properly.

I am in need of a decent vacuum for my workshop so this would be a good purchase anyway, for general use I would probably just get the M class vacuum. Are the CTM 26 filters and bags compatible with the CTH 26 machine? As I am purely purchasing the H Class vacuum for a single job I would would like to just buy the cheaper replacement M class bag and filter for future use, is this possible?

Thanks in advance.

get yourself the vac you want for your workshop, and get professionals to sort the asbestos.  not worth messing with.

Unless you want it commercially, M class is a waste for FEstool vacs.

The filter and vac are all the same between M and L class.

The only difference is that the CTM series have an air flow sensor to alert you if the air flow drops below a certain deemed-safe value.

As for compatibility, a CTH is a CTM with special filters and seals. So yeah, you can "upgrade" a CTM (or a CTL) to a CTH-level safety.

That said, per above. Do not save here. Really, do not.
Once cleaned up, make sure you have the asbesthos levels measured too. Any proper company will do that for you before releasing the space for general use.

The thing is, as long as the asbesthos is "inside the wall" all is good. The problem comes when you start cutting it, cleaning it etc. and thus releasing it into the the air.
An amateur-ish removal is usually way worse than not doing anything and leaving it alone.

For a shop vac, I would recommend the CTL 26 AC version. Not too big and the most versatile. CTM only if you expect to use it commercialy where it may be mandated (in future).
