Hello im new to this site.Im joiner in uk that mostly installs kitchens and shopfitting.I am thinking of buying the entry level ctl mini.Or should i go for a different model? Thanks for any replys

I  have a mini but if I had to do it over would have gotten a bigger unit.  You need to balance size and weight against capacity.  I have a mini and it works great for sanding and the domino.  But it is a litle light for my router or router table (Milwukee  5616) or my small band saw.  They need the dustdepudty; otherwise the bags just fill too fast.  This is an OK rig for the shop but not really viable for site use.  If I were buying today I would get the 36.

Jimmy,

Welcome to the FOG.

I started out with the Mini - for me it was fine. Sure, I had to change the bag quite often, but on the plus side it was smaller & lighter to transport. At the time I was working out of the back of a Mondeo estate, so space was at a premium. I don't think I could have fitted the CT22 (as it was then) in with all the other tools!

If you have the space in the van, then maybe go for the midi or CT26 instead.

Just curious, but where in the UK are you?

Thanks for advice.Glasgow, but i can be all over uk doing shopfitting.I have a kapex ts55 trion 300 and of1400 so the mini out of the question???

Don't get the CTL36 over the CTL26!!! The pricing on these (US vs UK) is one thing about Festool which I find truly insulting to us Brits.

In the US, the CT26 costs $550, and the CT36 $600. That's a difference of 9%, which is reasonable, given that the only difference between the two is one plastic moulding which is slightly bigger.

In the UK, the CTL26 costs £454.73, the CTL36 costs £717.93, an increase of over 57%, which really is taking the piss!!! If the price difference was the same in the US, the 36 would cost 868 dollars!

Plus, the CTL36 with a nearly full bag will be bloody heavy!

the midi and the mini is the same thing the midi just has a bigger tub and bag either would be fine you will have to change bags more often with the mini

will i be able to get a deal if i buy the midi and mft3 together???

Unfortunately not. UK dealers are not allowed to discount tools at all (yes, the MFT3 is classed as a tool).

You might, however, be able to find a dealer who will sell you both at full price, but give you some free accessories as a thank you...

Welcome to the FOG Jimmy!  I do what we call residential remodeling here in the States (that's a mix of first and second fix in the Queens English [big grin]).  I've got the Mini and the CT 26, my first choice is the Mini since it's so easy to transport and carry around the jobsite.  I bought the Mini a couple of years before the Midi was introduced.  If both models had been available I might have gotten the Midi instead just to make it more practical to use with my Festool routers.  I don't mind having the smaller unit, the cost of a few extra filter bags since client pays for them.  I have a feeling after you get a Festool extractor you'll wish you would have gotten one sooner (and I bet you'll buying a second and maybe even a third).

You answered the question your self!  I wouldnt go for the Mini or midi cus they are to small the CT22 is the smallest I would recommend but if you have to have small 1 wouldnt go less than a midi!

You have to change the bag more often thus buying more bags and waisting more time changing not worth it.

I have thought about buying another CTL but been telling my self to save money! Any way I aint looked at the prices for the CTL26 or 36 yet but going on the prices you said man da does take the biscuit. No way would I pay that much more to upgrade to the 36 like you said its only abit of plastic any one buy the 36 wont have done their home work and have been a silly billy.

I do the same sort of work as you and I got the MIDI when I bought my ts55 back in 2007 and I cannot fault it. It has bigger bags to the mini but its not as big as the 22 so much easier to cart around. I have never found it too small either. Only time it will fill quickly is if you use a planer with it.

^^ Me too. I also have a 22 that pretty much stays in the workshop - I find it way too big for me to cart around; maybe I should only work in bigger houses, lol! Very happy with my Midi as a jobsite vac - just wish you could buy the bags in packs of 20 like the Mini.

I'm sorry, but you are mistaken. Probably also due to the UK Festool website because they put the odd CTL 36 LE on top instead of the more common CTL 36 E. The CTL 36 LE model is the one with the extra built in auto start mechanism for air sanders and that's the one that costs £717.93. The standard CTL 36 E costs £561.65 in the UK.
