Festool CXS Wobble

I see some wobble more or less depending on the bit. I have seen this in my C12s at times. And not at other times. Again depending on the bit. I tend to "see" it more if I look at a twist drill but I think some of that is the optical illusion of the twist. The couple times I did notice wobble that I thought was bad enough to be something wrong it quickly became apparent that it was the bit. They are different drills and I don't have a CXS. In general I would say that my C12s run very true.

Do you have another drill that you could try a couple bits in just to use as a visual comparison?

I see that you said you ordered it so I am guessing that the dealer is not a place you could go to compare it to other CXS?

Also if you feel it is not acceptable you have the 30 days.

I have the CXS and it works as well as any drill that I've used . I have the PDC and it seems to run super smooth, then I did notice with the largest forstner bit I have which is 35mm that it seem to have a slight wobble, but I didn't notice it having any influence on th precision of the hole either being offcenter or actual size. I've only drilled small to 3mm to 6mm holes with the CXS with no problems. Visually at I can say it could seem to wobble, but my eyes could be fooled one way the other. Performance wise it does what it needs to do. I'm sure a super beefy chuck on a heavy drill press is more stable than any handheld drill could every be.

The centrotec system as a whole has a tiny bit of wobble, after all it is a quick change system and the bits are not thoroughly clamped as in a Jacobs chuck. To make insertion and removal of the bits easy, there has to be a minute amount of play.

In my opinion, the wobble has no influence what so ever on the quality of work, whether you're drilling or driving.

I should add that i only use centrotec bits etc. in my festool drills. So yes the wobble could be in part be caused by the centrotec system. The Op shows the wobble with the Jacobs chuck though.

I checked my CXS and it doesn't wobble that much, however, I think the wobble is because the drill bit is not straight.

Substitute some other drill bits and see if they wobble less. Or try chucking up a small steel dowel pin in the Jacobs chuck and see how that compares.

Try fully opening the jaws on the chuck and cleaning it with a blast or 2 of compressed air, then reinserting the drill bit and check the wobble again.

In addition to what cheese said, don't seat the bit all the way into the chuck.  Back it out 1/8".  I doubt it will address it, but it only takes a second to try.

I did some more testing and could not get a straight result. I am sending this one back and am ordering a new one.
