I’m a finish carpenter/wood flooring contractor and have really taken to Festool these last 2-3 years but for the last 25 years all I’ve ever used are 1-1/2" diameter vacuum hose (Clarke, Wap, Alto or Nilfisk Vacuums whatever name they are this year) Can you tell me the definitive reason for a 27mm hose? please don’t say ease of use when using smaller hand tools, the A/S hose is so rigid it tends to overpower and have its way with the lighter weight tools, I just purchased three of the awesome but pricey hose made specifically for the Planex for my three Festool Dust Extractors. My last hurdle is the 90 degree elbow for the CT MINI
thanks in advance,
Vince

Because of: ease of use when using smaller hand tools.

Sorry, apparently you don't want to hear that, but nevertheless it is exactly the reason why.

The rigidness will go away. I have used many tools with the 3 Festool extractors I had by now and the hose never overpowered me, so you really shouldn't be too concerned about that.
