Festool Dust Extractor upside down?

Hello everyone,
I've recently bought a couple Festool tools (OF1400 and TS55). I also purchased a CT Midi to use with them. In my shop, most of my work is done at a central work table. So I rarely use my tools away from this work station. I am trying to optimize my work a little more and I had a crazy idea. Would it be possible to mount my CT Midi from my ceiling above my work table? It would give me good access with the dust hose to all portions of my work table and keep the dust extractor out of the way. If i did go this route, i would make the mount so that the dust extractor is easily removable if I do need to move it. But I just wanted people's opinions on whether or not the dust extractor would work fine upside down.

I doubt it.  As the bag fills, gravity would cause it to smother the filter and probably restrict airflow.

I think you will ruin your ct if you run it upside down

  Welcome to the forum!  [smile]

That is not going to be a good set up. Not only will the filter get smothered but the inlet to the dust bag is on the top side so as it fills it will be shutting of the inlet. I would suggest going with a CT26 - 48 , right side up, the hose comes out the front, and should hang down quite well. I also think that right side up will make it easier to change bags. Since the bottom tub that holds the bag comes off as a separate piece from the top. If it was upside down bag changing would be  a real pain.

Unless you need the floor space, build your own boom arm, will achieve the same thing and be more useful.

Totally impossible upside down. You will have extraction for 5 minutes and then it's over.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like it is unanimous that this is not a good idea. I figured as much but I just wanted to see what options I had for my setup. The reason i was looking at doing it upside down is because the hose comes out of the top of the CT Midi. I'll figure something else out.

Are you trying to use a hose other than the supplied 27mm? ?  That one will poke right out the front under the hose garage... 
If u want to use a larger diameter I'm sure you could get creative and make a 90 degree adaptor to use
Sounds like  building a box that it would fit in and mounting that to the ceiling is your best bet, maybe a bungee to hold it in.  No one wants a midi falling from the ceiling  [eek] 

That would also make it much faster to get it down to change bags or use it on the ground.

If you do a search on here, there is a thread on using the original 90 degree elbow with the 36mm hose.  [wink]

I am currently using the 27mm hose that came with the extractor but I will probably be upgrading to the larger diameter in the future. I was just trying to maximize every inch I could out of the hoses. Not a big deal. I'll figure something else out.
