Festool guide rail connector replacement screws

I prefer the Makita two piece connectors.  No worries or issues with deforming the rail slot, and a much stronger connection.....

I also bought the Makitas and think they are much better solution.

I've been quietly reading the site for over a year now gleaning what I can and the information here is invaluable!

With respect to this thread, I attempted to place an order with McMaster-Carr and received the following response:

Due to the complexity of U.S. export regulations, McMaster-Carr accepts international orders only from businesses. This decision also applies to orders shipping within the United States, because it is based on the final destination of the items. We cannot accept this order or future orders.

It would appear that without a business account, you're out of luck.  I spent the last couple of days scouring for a supplier and finally found one here in Canada (actually a US company with Canadian outlets).  If you're having trouble locating this item, you can find it here.  Their contact page is here and lists both US & Canadian suppliers on the left side of the page.  The retail cost is considerably higher, so beware  you're paying a hefty markup.  [scared]

Hope this helps!

Pretty cool seeing my label on that bag in the original post. Nylon tipped and brass tipped set screws are the bees knees as they say. Without the soft tip you gall whatever you're going up against, the nylon or brass tip prevents damage.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I just found it and Im thankful it was out there! Going to add this set screws to my next McMaster Carr order and pick up a Wera 3mm hex screwdriver (part number 023110 if anyone is interested) to dedicate to the task!

For those who have swapped out the guide rail screws to the hex head.  This is a perfect screwdriver to do the job. Real quick and easy for one handed use. small enough to not over tighten. The ball end makes it fast to get into the recess even at an angle. I keep it in my guide rail box. Also switching to the hex recess makes it easy to leave the driver in the screw head and use it to slide the connector.  Overall just very handy for this task.

I ended up going with this one: LINK

I like the bigger handle. Fits in any Systainer too. Not a ball hex though as I kinda prefer the normal ones. However they offer it in a ball hex version as well: LINK

Yup, that's a nice one too. I just really like the way the precision style rotating against the palm. Makes a really quick twist for these.  [smile]

For those who come here via search: I just ordered the McMaster-Carr screws mentioned above (93285A412 ) directly from McMaster-Carr online with no company name, paid by credit card. They’re about $11 something for a pack of 5 now.
Web address is McMaster.com.

- the other option is to get the TSO GRC-12 Guide Rail Connectorshttps://tsoproducts.com/accessories/grc-12-self-aligning-guide-rail-connectors/

which include screws not prone to coming out, or dimpling your guide rails, or not clamping enough due to the low-friction, no-mar tip.

Oh, the 3mm Hex driver is included - all at a price competitive with the pair of Makita or FESTOOL rail connectors. ( not sure how much longer we can stay at that price).

Just thought some of you may not be aware of this Option.

Hans

How long can they be? The ones on here are 7.5mm long, can't say I've ever measured my existing ones and they are kind of out the way right now.
Nylon tipped M6 set screws.
They even got the colour right for the obsessives.
