Peter, I don't see how that would be in the best financial interests of Festool. If what you explained were the case, I would expect a great deal of tool thefts as unsavory types had their tools "stolen" since the replacement costs are so cheap. Another poster wrote something about this being a European policy, so it is possible that what you explained is correct, but Festool is mandated by law to provide this.
What makes the most sense from an American perspective is that this warranty is like the extended warranties we pay extra for when we buy something at Best Buy. But maybe there's something I'm not seeing.
