Festool Jigsaw TRION PS 300 - out of stock or discontinued?

I ordered the D handle last week, but thanks to this thread, managed to track down the barrel handle near me. The D handle is going back.

Also picked up the guide rail adapter, and trying to figure out a more elegant way to store it in the systainer. Anyway, here she is, the latest member of the Festool fam:

I attached velcro loop tape to it, and velcro hook tape to the Systainer lid.

I don't think the Trion is being discontinued in NA (at least not yet). My local dealer got the new 100 catalog in and it's still listed.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Back in the mid-2000s, I tried out both the D-Handle and Barrel Handle version of the Trion. I much preferred the Barrel Handle and that's what I bought. Interestingly, it was my very first Festool purchase from "Uncle Bob". :)

BTW, I didn't look at the image initially.

It shows the D handle version. Does it also show the barrel grip version?

No, the barrel grip version is not offered in the new catalog...although I did find several other inconsistencies in the new catalog, so who knows.  [smile]

It looks they are selling of the stock (hint: it does not sell). As mentioned earlier, the current price in US is at or even below cost.

Trion should be roughly the same price as the bare CARVEX, possibly a bit more based on the cost to make/sell these.

You think a Trion is more expensive to make than a Carvex?
Yes. The incremental costs that is. Both because it is materially more intensive, more complex, uses older-type electronics, is made (today) in lower volume. Not counting R&D costs as those do not influence if a tool is dropped/retained.

Further, there are less (and cheaper) accessories made for the TRION. It has to justify itself just by the sell price. Cannot rely on additional revenue from accessories like the CARVEX can.

That in addition this is a US/NAINA discussion. The cordless CARVEX is a straight ship-from-Europe affair while the TRION is a semi-custom arrangement, incurring additional costs compared to the 230V TRION we get here.

Nah, it can justify itself by not having that horrible blade wobble that the Carvex has.

Hmmmmm. I haven't noticed that yet.

I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

I am not aware that they fixed it in production, so that problem is probably soon to arrive to your Carvex too.

So is it something that develops over time? I didn't get that impression, but I haven't done a deep dive on this.

The Trion is such a great jigsaw, would still be using mine if it hadn't been stolen. Think I bought it in 2003, was still going strong 10 years later. The Carvex, not so much. Only bought one because I wanted a cordless option, to go along with my corded Mafell.

People need to stop bashing the Carvex just because they read someone else hating on it, like a bunch of sheep. Its pathetic.

Anyone who bashes the Carvex here loses my immediate respect honestly.
The only true criticisms of the Carvex are that it’s not as good as the Trion or P1. It’s only the third best jigsaw.

Talking about blade wobble, and it not being fixed in production. . . Utter bullshit.

Yes, it's not present new out of the box.

Oh really? Passive aggressive much? Two can play that game...

I thought it was overblown too. Well, at least since the 420. Not talking about the 400 here. [bite tongue]
Then I visited my brother and since he now owns a Carvex (PSC 420 EB)... I don't have to bring my Trion anymore. But what a an absolute sh*tshow with that blade wobble. Somewhere at around a quarter of that pricepoint you would expect a saw to not have such a basic flaw.

Well, you insinuate that it would be fixed in current production models... without actually saying so. So enlighten us.... Or is this just an assumption of yours? Maybe Festool can put out a press release noting the starting serial number of when it was fixed in production.
