Festool Jigsaws: How clean do they cut?

My experience with jigsaws is that they are for rough work and pretty worthless for a clean cut and blade bending is always a concern even on straight cuts. So I've been reading up a bit on the PS 300 and they claim to have resolved these issues, so how good is it really? Can I actually get a clean, straight square cut on a 4.75" chunk of wood? Please share your real world experiences with Festool jigsaws, if they are as good as the marketing claims I'm getting one yesterday, at $265 it's a no brainer.

Ive only used mine a few times but it cuts pretty cleanly certainly. key thing is using the right size/tooth combination.

With the right blade, the Trion will give you a perfect cut. I used the 145 blade to cut some 12/4 walnut once and it was perfectly perpendicular. On the other hand, try to do a curve with one of the thick blades and you'll be in trouble.

Even with the 145 blade though, you are at the limit of the blade's capability to try 4 3/4".

The Trion is one tool I have no interest in ever upgrading.

My dewalt couldn't do that on 3/4" let alone 3". That's impressive in my book.

I havn't cut much thick stock with my Trion but on anything in the 3/4" to 1 1/2" range I have had excellent results.

I havent either mainly 18mm ply.But I saw it demo'd on 8/4 maple at the end user class. It did a awesome job.

But it does take the correct blade, speed and feed rate

Well I guess that's what the 30 day trial is all about, if it works as advertised its a keeper.

Paul,

I'm in my shop now.  If you want I shoot some video to show you how well the PS300 works.

That would be awesome!!

I'm downloading the video now.  Should take about 30 min. to download to my laptop and a few to upload to Youtube.  So give me about an hour.

Paul,

I have found my Festool to cut better than anything I have owned including the Bosch. I never have had anything that will cut thick stuff with little kerf like the Festool does.

I don't care for the low visability on the one I have compared to other stuff but it really does cut SUPER nice.

Paul,

I hope this can answer any questions you had about the PS 300.  I love the barrel grip.  When I first started using the barrel grip it took me about

5 seconds to get use to it.  If you have any other questions or would like to see anything else demonstrated please let me know, I would be more

then happy to "push" you towards as the PS300.  I could bore you with why I like the PS300 but I think I will let this short video do the talking for me.

In short, I LOVE this jigsaw.

Hope this helps you buddy,

Eric

It helps a bunch, thank you much. I'm certain now a Festool jigsaw is in my future. That door cut was so easy, genuinely impossible using my dewart

My first jigsaw was a Sears craftsman I inherited after my Grandfather passed.  It was probably from the 80's.  I bought a Black and Decker

with "quick blade change" but the darn blade NEVER stayed in the freakin' jigsaw.  So I gave up on jigsaws all together.  Until I found out about Festool

so I had to buy the PS300 after using the TS55 and OF1400.  Honest I got my PS300 of craigslist for $150.  I know, I got lucky.  And well, the ergonomics

of the jigsaw are very impressive.  I wish I had something thicker to show off the PS300.  I also have the Guide stop for the PS300, which makes

cutting straight long cuts a breeze.

Nice job on the video Eric !

Thanks !   I thought it would be easier for me to show how good the PS 300 works rather then tell.   [big grin]   [big grin]

Great video as usual.  May have to rethink my general disdain for jigsaws.

Hahaha !  You know you want a Festool jigsaw !  All in good time my friend, all in good time!

There are a lot of things I want, and my darn list keeps getting longer.  I am trying to justify (shouldn't be hard) as part of the remodel to our house.
