Festool new $99 sander

Its the updated version of the sander.  The $99 is a promotional/sale price.  I would be very surprised if the Pro 5 is a lesser tool.

Thanks for asking, I was wondering the same thing. I also wonder why the change to the "Pro" name.

. I'm betting the Pro 5 name doesn't stick around, at least in all markets.

This is known as the ETS 125 REQ in the rest of the world. This is not a sub-par tool. It's the same quality that you would expect from any Festool.

The price is to attract those who have, so far, not tried a Festool because of price alone. To win those folks over and show them what Festool is all about. You cannot do that with an inferior product.

I saw your email today, and was hoping it would be available in the 150mm size. I'll still probably order one even though it means buying a second paper size.

. Right, not a worry with me at all Shane.  It just reminds me of the automotive world.... Monterey here, Shogun there, Pajero elsewhere... [big grin]

The motor is brushless?

Many moons ago, Festool did sell the ETS 150 sanders for even a lower price than the new ETS 125 PRO, maybe $50.00 or so.But it was for a very limited time.

I'm glad I saw a video or link for this appear in my facebook feed. I almost never catch the new things coming out for Festool- not that I am always looking for them..

While I am quite happy with my RO 90 and ETS EC 150/3 with the shopping plans for an RO 150... I don't need another sander but I think that for a penny pincher like my Dad who still can't get over the sticker shock of these tools... This deal would be too good to pass up to gift him since he could really use a high quality finish sander.

Is there anyone one here who regrets their purchase of a 5" sander over the 6"? He does have a 1/2 sheet vibration numbing Milwaukee that he has used for a few decades, but he doesn't seem to mind that- so I figured the smaller one with this price deal (assuming I can land one at my local store) would make a good addition for him.

With keeping this a Festool thread, usually the only reason someone buys the smaller ETS 125 and regrets it is that it doesn't cover as much surface area as any larger 6" pad sander would ,and with a stock 2mm orbit, it's not an aggressive sander like something with a larger 5mm or more orbit.
BUT, it's not supposed to be any of those things, instead, just what it is, a very nice, very smooth, fine finishing sander with great dust collection.
The new version EC  125 sander, another/different tool, went up a tiny notch in orbit at 3mm to gain a bit more aggressive ability when sanding, and has a radically different body to it, but it's also more expensive.
Your Dad should love the ETS 125/Pro 5 sander. And at that sale price it's basically half off since Festool has kept the price at $195 for a long time.  With the new version ETS/Pro 5 gaining that valuable plastic edge guard AND more wattage in the motor, it would still be an interesting sander at the regular price.
So, you now have all that and a redesigned body, at a steal of a price...$99.... [thumbs up]

You're also gaining a pad brake, which may not seem like a big deal, but after you've used a sander with one, you'll never go back. You simply shut off the sander and put it down. No more waiting for it to stop or chasing it across the bench if you didn't wait long enough.

The older ETS 125 didn't have one?

Nope, that's the reason that when I purchased the newer EC version it was such an eye opening experience. The EC's a beautiful sander but the pad brake is the best feature.  [thumbs up]

In Canada its $129 but still a steal of a price.  i have had my eye on a fesstool sander for a while and this might be the opportunity to add to my festool collection. and at that price its equal in price to a dewalt 5" only way better. as if i needed more reason to buy

Local vendors here in Canada say it is a brushless motor.

Chuck
Maybe they're confusing it with the  ETS EC sanders which I believe ARE brushless.  [blink]

The email I got from my Canadian festool dealer did say Brushless.

Perhaps they are confusing this with the mmc electronics listed in the specs.

I did order one as soon as I got the email yesterday, and found out it was not a brushless motor when reading forum this morning.
