Festool CT Dust Extractors filter dust in different stages. The first level of filtration is the filter bag. The filter bag has to fulfill very demanding duties: It has to hold back as much dust as possible (goal is 99.9%) and at the same time it has to let the air pass to create the suction. Preventing clogging in the pores of the bag is also important ensuring adequate air flow until the bag is full. The bag needs to prevent as much dust as possible from reaching the final filtration step, the main filter. The less the main filter has to filter, the longer it is going to last and the better job it can do.

The bag has to be tear proof, needs to sit secure in the dust extractor with secure connection between the bag and the dust extractor, the glued joints have to last and have to be dust proof. The bag needs reinforcements at spots with high stress. At the same time the filter bag has to have an acceptable selling price.

Does all that sound like an ordinary paper bag?

Quite a demanding job! An ordinary paper bag couldn?t do it. The Festool CT filter bags are a complex system of paper layers. It took a significant amount of time in the laboratory to develop the right bag for the CT. The engineers examined how dust flows into the bag and how maximum filtration can be achieved. They also have to prevent phenomena like the ?dust cake?. In certain dust extractors the dust accumulates to a certain spot and creates a ?dust cake?, a very hard piece of dust sitting in the dust bag opposite the inlet, causing the bag to tear.

There are countless hours that went into the design of the filter bag for a good reason: Proper dust extraction only works with the right filter bag.

What are the benefits of the Festool Filter Bag?

Save Money. Main filter does not clog too fast and does not have to be replaced constantly.
Save Time. Easy and fast way to dump the dust. Clean way to dump the dust, no clean-up.
Healthier Work Environment. Less dust in the air.
Longer Tool Life. Better protection for the vacuum motor in case the main filter is leaking.

Built with the installer in mind, the CT MIDI is ideal for anyone who requires full suction capacity in a light-weight and compact design. Perfect for the jobsite or the workshop.

A good dust extractor keeps your work area clean and the air you breathe dust-free. A clean work environment saves clean up time, and will keep your customer happy when the job takes place in their occupied home. And by extending the service life of tools and consumables, a good dust extractor will directly improve your profitability.

Festool dust extractors offer features and benefits like no other brand. Once you have worked with one, you will be glad you made the investment.

Special thanks to Brice Burrell, a general contractor from the Pittsburgh area and loyal Festool customer, for contributing this month's Festool "Toolie Tip". Brice says...

As a general contractor, I take my Festool vacuums to the job site every day, here are a few tips to help you at home, in the shop or on the job.

I picked up an extra plug-it cord to keep with my Festool dust extractor. I like to use velcro ties to fasten the cord to the hose. Having a cord with the dust extractor allows you to keep the cord that came with your tool(s) in its Systainer, so you will never get to the job without a plug-it cord.
If the wheels of your CT dust extractor are a bit nicked up, from rolling on concrete, a little blue painters tape on them will help prevent them scratching hardwood floors.
A great way to conveniently store an extra filter bag is putting one in a zip lock bag under the bag currently in use.
Thanks for the great tips, Brice! If you have a great Festool product tip that you would like to share, send us an email.

Mike

Actually, thank you Shane and Festool for asking me to write the tips, I was glad to contribute. I enjoyed the newsletter, and how would have thought so much research went into filter bags.

Shane how often do you think a new SysNotes newsletter will come out?

Bob,

Thanks, but shucks. I was hoping for another iteration of a SysPort (hopefully more affordable).

Mike

Brice,

Expect to hear from us every time we have something important to say.  That will be more and more often.  ;D

It would be safe to say that we will send the SysNotes every 2-4 weeks.  We want to stay in touch with the Festool community.  In the newsletter, you will notice that we welcome everyone to email their tips for inclusion in future editions of the SysNotes.  There are so many innovative ways that you guys (and gals) are using the products.

I highly recommend that everyone sign up for SysNotes to keep in the loop for all things related to Festool.  There are a lot of great things in the works at Festool and it's exciting to be a part of it.

Bob, quick question...  On the CT Midi mentioned above, any discussion on a future HEPA option?

Thanx - Brad

TTB,

Half were sent out yesterday and the remaining half just released.  Sorry for the delay but you can expect delivery any time now.  If you do not receive it, please let me know.

Thanks,
Shane

Just got mine a few minutes ago.

Shane, on the CT Midi, any insight if a HEPA filter might be available in the future?

Thanx - Brad

Brad,

No current information regarding HEPA availability on the MIDI.  I will keep everyone posted via SysNotes should that change.

Thanks,
Shane

I just recieved mine a few minutes ago. I have had the CT mini for a few months now.

I just signed up through your link but am actually surprised that I was not already on the list through Bob Marino? Fred

Fred,

For anyone interested, I posted the SysNotes November on our website athttp://www.festoolusa.com/SysNotes/SysNotes-November07.html.
