Festool Parallel Guide vs Seneca Woodworking Parallel Guide

I have the Seneca guides and find them to be superb. I don't own the Festool parallel guides but I have tried them. I guess the key difference has been mentioned in that the Seneca guides sit on the material, and the Festool guides hang off at either end (unless you modify them in some way).

I use a Woodpecker rule and stop to set them - a trick I picked up here on the FOG. Very accurate results.

Set the rule stop, flip the rule over, butt the stop against the strip of the rail, and then push the Seneca stops to the end of the rule.
Excellent idea!

[member=11629]GarryMartin[/member] I just got mine in the mail today and I was looking at what people do and I saw this post. With this method does that mean you do not even use the tape measure on the incra track? I was going to get longer tracks is that a bad idea? How long is your Woodpecker rule? Finally, do you have woodpecker stop 1 or 2?

I do this as well but be cautious if you're not in touch with the state of your splinter strip.

That's right [member=69101]thedevme[/member] - no tape measure or rule on the track.

I have the Woodpecker Woodworking Rule 900mm and the Woodpecker Ruler Stop 2.

As [member=12487]duburban[/member] notes though, make sure your saw is cutting exactly against your splinter strip otherwise your parallel cuts will be out using this method.

[member=11629]GarryMartin[/member] Thank you. I am going to pickup the ruler right now. Do you use this same method for thin cuts?

For setting narrow rips off a ruler and stop you'd only be needing something around 300mm. A 900mm rule would be a tad unwieldy for that ;)

For the more economically minded, Banggood have a couple of offerings way cheaper than a WP 300 + rule stop:
https://www.banggood.com/Drillpro-W...html?rmmds=myorder&ID=515969&cur_warehouse=CN

and
https://www.banggood.com/Aluminum-2...276569.html?rmmds=mywishlist&cur_warehouse=CN

I have the first one and actually prefer it to using the WP 300 and stop due to more heft and handle make it that much easier to use.

I don't think I've ever done any thin cuts. The Seneca Narrow Stops are still wrapped!

[member=11629]GarryMartin[/member] LOL wow I ended up buying the 12" rule and also ordered everything in metric so I can finally use it more.  Thank you for the tips - now I have to figure out how to make sure my TS55 is cutting on the strip. I am pretty sure it is but I will verify.

[member=53696]Roachmill[/member] thanks for the heads up and the links luckily on a whim I picked up the 12" as well, for now, I will use that but I am going to save your links bc I like them for other things.
