In Australia we are used to paying a bit more. BUT today I compared a few prices in America with here. Mostly in Aust we pay 50% more. Like probably most of us Festools are a joy to use. I have to say the joy is somewhat dampened by price gauging?  [mad]

factor in your amazing island weather and multiple beautiful climates and we'll call it even. were a bunch of cheapos over here, its not a great thing!

There needs to be a "waving red flag in front of bull" emoticon!

Anyway, we have a big country, with a small population and a much wider range of Festools (and Protools) ... all provided by a non Festool owned (additional supply chain cost component) local distributor.

To cheer myself up I look at some of the north European prices [wink]

Regardless of market, the only thing that's going to seriously reduce the price of Festool is a competitor.

Welcome to FOG  [big grin]
I try to avoid thinking too much about international price comparisons.  I know we pay premium prices but no one makes me hand over the plastic!

Welcome to the FOG; great to see another Australian sign up.

However, even as a fellow Australian I cannot agree with you, given the current strength of the Australian dollar, and affect of discounting below RRP.

Let's look at two dealers who discount, one in Australia, the other US and compare their Kapex 120 prices.

US dealer. $1375 US

Aust dealer $1595 Aust

Given that today, 1375= 1511.90 Aust, I would say that's close to even.
However if you look at the RRP, then you may have a point..

And certainly around six months ago, I may have agreed with you.

And we do not suffer from NAINA!

Welcome to FOG Jeph.

...and Kev. I'm always happy to cheer you up.

Price in Denmark: 11.112,50 DKK = 2.217,- AUD

...anyone bidding higher out there?  [big grin]

Kind regards
Henrik

Glad to see you have been conned by Australian Tourism advertisements.

Summer Australia is the land of fire and floods ; Bush and  Grass Fires in the southern States, Cyclones and floods in the North. It all usually happens in January/February.  Enjoy your winter!

To bring this back on topic - plenty of 'hot' Festools down here in coming months!

That price and you are probably only an overnight truck ride away from Festool HQ.
No wonder Kev smiles.

To be honest I've stopped caring and bitching about the price variations.  In the end if i want the tool and can afford the asking price i buy it.

The joy and pleasure of using a tool that does whats required, lasts longer than the Joy and pleasure of saving a few dollars.

The Prices in the US have always been cheaper in everything.... there is different wholesale/sales infrastructure and well about 300 million more people.

On the positive, a Festool does not have any intention of killing you and Festool is not listed as one of the top 10 deadly creatures.

One the negative, everything else in Australia is trying to kill you with enough venom to slaughter 10 elephants.

What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. [big grin]

In Britain, for years, there was slogan than many banded around, "Rip off Britain". Prices were compared to those in the US and more importantly, in France/Western Europe.

However, it was purely down to the UK having a very strong currency for years, it was over 2 US$ to the UK Pound for years and years. Once the banking crises hit, the pound was hit hard and ever since then we have been the country to buy from. Electrical and Electronics have been cheaper her than anywhere for several years now. It probably cost 30% more in France now.

However, it is starting to creep back up. It is already over 1.6 US to the pound and seems to be trending that way, so, buy them while they are cheap.

I have to agree about the point made in terms of, if it is the best, what you want and you can afford it, buy it... I only buy what I want, never because there is a deal or a sale/bargain. If I want it and can afford it I buy it.

Sorry Henrik [sad]

As other's have mentioned, you typically don't think first about price when you're buying Festool ... but Festool promotions do get my attention - that's when I'll buy Festool tools and accessories that I "may need" rather than I "do need" (Protool too - for now anyway).

God help me if someone stuffs a Felder/Hammer discount catalogue in my letter box [eek]

There's only one thing worse than paying a bit more for a tool downunder....

And that's the dreaded 'NAINA' .... Now that would really get up my goat...
So, I'm not complaining and I keep happily paying although I would still like to have access to gear like Mafell, etc without having to personally ship it round the world...

On balance, we don't have it too bad downunder...

Nah...don't be sorry. I bought my kapex with a fair discount plus I earned some Festool bonus points I could swap for accessories. I'm from the west region of Denmark where people are known for being tight-fisted cheap bastards. I'm no exception so I've bought most of my Festool on sale.  [big grin]

I actually think our friends from Sweden would have to pay approx. 50 AUD more for a Kapex than we do in Denmark [scared]

Cheers
Henrik

Even more extreme is the pricing of Festool in Norway, from what I hear. They gotta be the record holders price wise world wide. No? What's the price on a Kapex up there?
