Festool Sysrock Video

No, the hanger cannot be used as that bracket is removed when fitting the battery and there is no such bracket on the back of a battery.

Battery life update:

It is still on 1 bar and going strong.

Thanks for the runtime test Peter! When you've done It would be great to know what Ah battery you used as well as your final runtime estimate.

I have just checked again and it is still on 1 bar so that is, so far, nearly 21 hours. I will check the Ah later.

I am video editing today and some distance from the workshop.

Battery life update:

I am beginning to wish I had not started this....

The battery is 4,2Ah 18v.

The Sysrock is still showing 1 bar - this cannot be linear. It has now been running for over 23 hours on the same music radio station. I have brought the radio into the house to save going over to the workshop all the time (without switching off or adjusting anything). It is far too loud and so it is in the utility room which will annoy my wife when she comes home.

And this is the same pre-production one that was being boxed up for collection the other day? Or have you bought one.

It is the same one which was boxed up until I received an email from Germany - I suppose there is not much they could do with a pre-production gadget that has been thrown around my workshop.

Thanks for the updates Peter. Battery life seems pretty great then. That is a real plus!

Despite feeling that the speaker is lacking features, I must admit I am very interested in a decent speaker for which I already have enough batteries to run it for days. Need to hear what it sounds like next.

Oh, and one last question. . Is the power lead, by any chance, the same as for the syslite? Does one charge the other? That would be handy.

Thanks again.

My wife is home and the Sysrock has been moved to the garage and is still going and on one bar (25 hours now).

The charger has the same size fitting as the Syslite. The Sysrock charger should be okay from what the Syslite manual says. However, I have found with the pre-production model that the reverse is not true as the Syslite charger voltage is too low. This may change with the production version but I have no way of knowing.

This is the last battery update...

It is still playing and has been running for a total of about 32 hours (+/- 30 mins) and is down to zero bar. The battery indicator flashes when it is near empty.

The radio is still churning out music, traffic reports and the odd bit of news. I have not noticed any change in sound quality or volume as the test went on.

Peter

I forgot to add that the volume setting has been at 10 throughout the test. This is halfway as it goes up to 20.

Thanks for the video Peter.
I'm at odds with a few points on the sysrock.
I think I'd fancy one, it's not something we use everyday as 95% of our non workshop tasks are in clients homes and I don't think it appropriate to use a radio unless we have the place to ourselves.
My problem with the sysrock isn't the price, non dab or the China thing, it's just not looking practical to me!
Let me explain, I have a syslight which not being the cheapest light / torch on the market I find it brilliant for certain tasks. I keep it charged up, find a location and hang it up with the hook.
If I understand the sysrock features properly this hook is negated by the fact that with no internal battery the radio will require to be plugged in to be hooked up. Most sockets are at floor level or counter height. If I want the radio on battery power, to hang it up, I have to remove the hook to insert the battery!
An internal battery on a product like this is essential or it's as well being twice the size to sit on the floor or counter.

Let's start by saying thank you Peter for another informative video
Unfortunately this one is not for me.
the problem with all this Bluetooth streaming from my phone is this:
We work in as a small team on site, there is usually three of us on each job, (plumber, chippy, sparks etc..) and first guy to arrive gets to tune the radio. Now should I win this little honour and choose to stream a dab station from my phone 3 problems arise....
1./ every time a get a call everyone either listens in on hands free or has to work in silence whilst I take the call. As the team leader I get a lot of calls which leads to ....
2./ my phone battery will not stand a chance of seeing the day thru.
3./ if I go out to the truck for whatever and the connection drops then we all go back to silence whilst I restart the radio. And then start the music again which with Apple Music is a royal pain in the backside but that's a whole other thread!

I have a PDC which came with two batteries, there is no space for a third in the sys.
So if the drill is using one and the radio has the other. What happens when the drill needs a fresh battery .... Now I know why there is no internal battery, they want us buying more batteries and systainers to keep all these extra batteries.
If running an external battery is the number one way that this radio is designed to be used why not just make it bigger in the first place. Any sleak form factor is lost the second you actually have to use it by sticking a darn great battery on the back of it!
Sorry for the continued negativity. Ever so disappointed  [crying]

^^^^
There is def' room for 3 batteries in the PDC Systainer. If you have one on the drill.

Yes, I fully understand the streaming issue. I somehow think that Festool have certainly got the message over DAB and lack of internal battery.

As an aside... I was cutting the grass a few weeks ago and had left my iPhone in the house. I was wearing my 3M Bluetooth radio ear defenders whilst on the mower. Every time I came within 20 feet of the house I heard "...Bluetooth connected" and then at about 50 feet from the house it was "...Bluetooth disconnected" which interrupted my radio listening rather a lot.

Peter

I'd get the Sysrock, when the job situation would be conductive to it. I have 5 18v batteries and plan on getting a couple more 15v batteries so it should not be an issue. I may also get the 2.6 amp battery for the PDC drill to turn it into a lighter package so that makes 9 batteries...

I like that it's mono, stereo is a waste for job site use..

Hi everyone
I have just taken delivery of my Sysrock radio and although expensive for what it is I thought it would suit me well. Sound quality is fine size is great and battery lasts ages. I am disappointed with a couple of design floors though. It comes with a hook so you can hang it on something, nice touch but you have to remove the hook to fit the battery and once the battery is fitted you can't use the hook.if you want to use the hook you have to use mains power which limits where you can hang it. The next is the Bluetooth function, you can pair your phone play music from your phone and when you get a call the music will stop and you can answer your phone hands free great, apart from as soon as you switch to radio mode or aux the Bluetooth disables and you can't use the Bluetooth function.
The hands free bit was what I liked best about the radio as I keep missing calls all the time but unless I'm listening to my music off my phone this function won't work. I do listen to the radio a lot more than my own music.
