Anyone got any clever/effective ways of locking a festool systainer so that work collegues don't use your tools when you are not around.
I noticed my ts55 was put back in it's box the wrong way around so someone must have used it without my permission. I'm not best pleased  [mad]

Or am I being too protective of my tools?

One option is the lockable Sysport by Festool.

Or build one out of wood with a door and a hasp lock.

Cheers,
Steve

[welcome] to the fog

no you are not over protecting them. you collegues will ruin them. i would never let anyone use my festools, or most of my other tools.

i have seen on some site a classic systainer latch with a built in lock.
are your tools in classics or t locs.
i also think there are little knock out holesin the classics for you to put a padlock

thanks for the quick replies, got a mix of older and newer systainers.
I wanted to avoid having to lock each individual box seperately, so maybe making my own sysport would be the way to go. A few years back I seem to remember seeing a metal bar which slid down the vertical holes in the systainer and locked them all together? I can't find anything like it now.

Tanos makes a lockable latch. I was talking with Frank (or Franc) the Tanos rep about it at JLC!  I'm generally the only person around my tools, but check it out.

Sean Ackerman @ systainerworld.com may also be able to help you with that!

Thanks, thats really helpful. I'll drop them a line. Wonder if they have a UK distributer?

There are two possibilities to lock a classic systainer:
1. lockable latches
2. lockable lid
You can order them from Tanos Germany
or may be from Tanos UK

Sorry, I didn't see that you were located in the UK!  Try to find a Tanos dealer if there are any out your way!  Good luck!

I found the lockable lid at the German site...but 16.5 Euros each! If you have many systainers  the wooden sysport would be cheaper, offer better faster access, keep the dust and dirt off them (from those people that don't use Festool [big grin]) also you would not be carrying around a bunch of keys.

Cheers,
Steve

I know you stated you didn't want to lock them all individually, but the locking latches really are quite good.  You can order multiple sets and request a common key.  You only need one per Systainer to keep it closed from unwelcome hands.

I did a review on them a good while back:  http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tool-reviews/tanos-systainer-locking-latches-review/

They're not cheap, but they are a good secure latch lock.  You aren't going to keep determined thieves out, but your coworkers aren't (hopefully!!) going to actually break the latch off, which would be the only way to get in.

A big plus I noted in a different reply:
- With the latches open, but set to the locked position, you can close the latches.  In other words, you can unlock and open the Systainer, immediately setting the latches to be locked.  The next time they are latched closed (and without having to fish your key out again) they will be secured.  Handy for locking up quickly as you run off on a lunch break.

Not so handy though if you accidentally drop the keys inside, and then close it without realising.... [doh]

Just make sure you don't lock the systainer that houses your blow torch.

Or your wrecking bar.
