Looks like Festool Systainers are still coming in handy in the 23rd Century out in the Asteroid Belt. Saw some in a scene of the SyFy Channels new show 'The Expanse'

Haha!  Do you reckon a set builder was asked by the design dept if they could borrow his tool boxes?

FESTOOL in SPACEEEEEEEEE.  If the next Stars Wars movie slips a systainer in a screen shot, we're all in trouble..... [scared] [scared]  [big grin]
Thankfully with the current movie, I didn't see one, so sales and availability will stay stable for now.  [poke] [poke] [poke]  Wouldn't want to upset the apple cart.

Or cause a disturbance in the Force...

Systainers on TV link

I wouldn't mind, but I actually did a forum search with 'The Expanse' as the search term, in case someone had already posted about the Systainers in this episode. Got zero hits. Sorry for the duplicate thread!

A friend of mine in London is working on the next Star Wars film, I'd better ask him that when they come back from their Christmas break to make sure that all Festools are kept away from filming, I know that a lot of track saws get used in the set production and a stray systainer might makes its way in as a prop!

Sorry [member=21004]Fesnewb[/member]  - I meant for my post to be a adder to your note, I didn't mean to chastise you for duplicating.

Hope the season finds you well - Kevin

Comparing the budget of star wars to the budget of the expanse would be like comparing the salaries of a paper boy to Rupert Murdock's. I know you weren't serious but there's no way star wars would buy an off the shelf product and try to pass it off as from the future. that being said productions will sell off redundant props at the end of a film for a song. A friend of mine bought a truck for a dollar. ....Canadian

I wish I could be so lucky...using "Festool's" exchange rate that would be something 6-7 cents US. [tongue] [big grin]

I'm willing to go in on the leftover Systainers from this show as a silent investor.  Just my two cents... [eek]

No, No. Don't worry. I didn't interpret your post as chastisement.

The original Star Trek TV show used off the shelf stuff to depict the future.  A lot of the medical sensing tools were salt & pepper shakers.  So they might........

Didn't attend the set sale for expanse so I don't know what they sold off. Imo it's a bit of a failure to present an item that's easily identifiable as something new from the distant future. this slight of hand goes on all the time mind you but the systainer being caught, takes a little away from the illusion of the distant future and deep space. Though they did have that drinking bird thing in the original alien, and it worked

. I don't know, if a design really works, it is timeless.
A spoon, a fork, should look roughly the same now and in the future.
A great case or box could be the same. [wink]

I suppose, throwing convention aside however, we've seen at least two iterations of the systainers in a relatively short period. the crate itself has gone through design changes within the last 100 years as material processing has advanced. Expanse takes place 200 years in the future...

And look how they couldn't improve on the T-Loc..... [wink] [wink] [wink]
Although it would be made way, way off-world in another galaxy by Tanos Droids at that point.... [crying]

The design might be the same 200 years from now, but I'd like to see them made out of some indestructible, super light weight material.  [big grin]

I always like looking at older movies to see how they dreamed of future tech. Like the 27 cathode ray tube tvs in the flying cars in blade runner. It's was hard to conceive flat panel displays back then and an easy way to make the tech look more advanced. Have the car brimming with "computers". Now that we're in a world surrounded by computers of extreme capability,  it looks redundant, but at the time we were in awe. Back to the systainers, I still feel the prop department should have altered them in some fashion, keep them familiar yet strange, this show was produced on a fairly low budget despite having some rather complicated sets built.
