Specifically, Festool Table Profile MFT/3-TP 2000 LA 00496824. As featured in Davesbuildtips table project. Is this part available in the US? It would be great to put a pair of these on a traditional woodworkers bench top.

Sorry to break this to you: the 2000 mm profiles are NOT available in North America.

BTW There appears to be a lot of interest in NA for these. When is someone going to step up and start importing them?

Bert, I could swear they are listed in the parts catalog http://ekat.festool.com/ but I never tried to order them. Seems stupid they are not available in NA, what if you damaged one on your $600+ portable table...

What you saw was likely the profiles for the MFT/3, which are far, far shorter than the 2000mm (78-3/4") profiles that are the discussion here.

We have both the long and short profiles of the MFT/3 available for sale as spare parts, but we do not offer the 2000 profiles.

So with this http://www.festool.com.au/epages/tooltechnic.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/tooltechnic/Products/496824 does that mean I can build a 2M long MFT top and attach the rail-hinge and the indexing front piece on it?

[member=54451]Elmar50[/member] = Where are you at?
I am actually headed through LA to Colorado in ~5 weeks.
I think my ski bag in SoCal - so who knows if they would get banged up, but they are metal.

Not exactly. Note that the MFT tops do not have the same long dimension as their corresponding long-side table profile, therefor your new MFT top must be a little longer.

I want to be able to put a long rail on a wooden torsion box, and mount the rail onto it like one does on a small MFT.

That should work. And there are many examples of that here. Keep in mind that you may not really need a long rail for that task -- a short section front and back may do the trick.  [big grin]

Oh, and you might find the older 1080-style profiles still available. They still work...

Yeah I am a bit slow as I thought that myself later.
I'll have to look up the number for the 1080.
Why would someone want the long rail? I can picture sliding the miter unit around, but nothing else pops into mind.

Oh! You must be new here.  [tongue] [big grin]

And the MFT800 has even cheaper shorter rails.

I was always under the impression that the 2000 mm length had to do with the size of the MFT/3. Maybe a long and short side added up to that, but that’s not the case…
So it must be a matter of convenience, the common length of aluminium extrusions being 6000 mm?
