Has anybody else noticed how the only negative comments about Festool's fantastic products are due to the cost from people that haven't even used them.  I just think it's kinda funny its hard to judge a product that you haven't even used.  I also think that its interesting that people don't seem to make comments to other tools like the Lamello Zeta that costs almost twice as much as the Domino.

No, not true ... I'm have lot's of Festool tools and I complain about the cost all the time. But there again, cost in Oz is only exceeded by cost in NZ and a couple of pockets of Europe.

I also complain about not having enough space for the tools I want and I even complain about not having enough time to use my tools.

Come to think about it, I also complain about not have the skills to take real advantage of my tools.

Oh dear - there's a pattern here  [embarassed]

Not quite the full story....  There is some talk over price... some quite justified -- e.x. kapex crown molding option...  But there have been some issues with the tools themselves...  what can't be complained about is the customer service -- if you have an issue, they try very hard to make the customer happy...

I think when a product or line of products has an aesthetic/functional appeal that attracts people somewhat fanatically, it turns off some people in the general public.

Festool fandom IMHO is very similar to Apple fandom.  Before Apple products were as ubiquitous as they are today, a small group of loyal customers sung their praises and happily paid high prices for what they believed to be superior products.  Many on the "outside" were turned off by the high prices combined with the smug, superior attitude of the fans.  You can do graphic design or edit film on a PC too, they said, costing half as much.  But for Apple fans, there was a joy in using Apple machines beyond simply executing a computing task, and the extra cost was worth it to them.

Having once been an Apple fanboy (but now simply a user of Apple products), and now somewhat a Festool addict, the parallels both in the users and those who dislike/disagree are strikingly similar to me.

Yeh, I had to leave New Zealand to live in Canada just so I could shoot up on cheaper festools [big grin]

I complain about the cost too, but I know that they are good tools and largely worth the price.

Yep, I second  all that kev! Coming from NZ, Festool is on another planet cost wise.  [scared]

people love to be negative more than positive.. that is human nature....

price has always been an issue for people on everything... people that can't afford a bmw  talk bad about them  those that can afford them buy um usually or a porsch !!

so its life... just buy what you can afford and if you can't afford it then charge it !!!

I think the festool users just poke fun at each other about buying tools ad the price,

the green kool aid, the slippery slope etc.

we al know how they costmore then other mfr. But IMO you get what you pay for.

I complain about the price more on principle since there is absolutely no rational reason to them for home hobby use except that I can and I want to use the best tools available that money can buy for my non-existant shop space.

I regard the coolaid banter as just friendly horse play between people who enjoy using great tools and have enough humor in them to be able to laugh at themselves for blowing disproportionate amounts of money on tools that are mostly 10-20% better then the second best and cost 2x more.

Most industries call this diminishing returns and theory suggests to get the 80% good tools for 50% cost rather than best for high price. But what can you do - been bitten with the green bug and crave for more Festool induced superpowers in the shop ;-)

Professional users have actual tangible benefits as well like excellent service & warranty but for a hobbyist to use a tool that much is mostly science fiction.

There are issues with everything in this life.

Face it, if it were perfect, you wouldn't have anything to complain about -- what's the fun in that?

;D

Well, to be fair there are a few other negative comments around the manuals and unavailability of certain things in NA as well as a few specific gripes about certain tools like the noise of the RO sanders. In general I think as owners of the tools and fans of the brand we hold Festool to a higher standard because of the price and the expectation of excellence it implies. So while here in the FOG we gripe about a few things, we usually defend Festool to others whose only argument is around the price with no thought to the utility of the tool itself...

Just some random thoughts... :)
