Festool Worktop Jig

i prefer to use freud 12.7 x 50mm straight flutes, i find the trend ones arent as sharp, im keen to try the cutters with removable blades although i worry the blade could move or misalign, i use a topform hib pro jig and it provides the best joints i have ever seen, the festool looks good and im sure its great.

[tongue] ha!

Yeah I know it gets a bit blurry!  I had it on normal and I watched it and though man if I was you guys watching this vid I would be proper bored! So I thought I would speed the hole lot up as I did try and speed up parts of the video but it kinda made it confusing to watch.    Plus having writing to read at the same time does makes it more difficult but I did it on youtube so I didnt know untill I uploaded it but I didnt want to upload it again so I thought I would post it first and if it was to bad I would then do it again but no one has really complained so its okay lol

Yes it is very similar to normal jig.    Just like I said you have 3 bolt holes in your jig but you can not adjust them so you would have to unclamp your jig to reposition your bolt holes different to the jig set up  and doing this you do the same on the other worktop   but with the festool jig you set it up once and then its a mirror affect onto the other worktop so less time waisting.

Cus I like to have the bolts close the the front and rear edge and one in the middle well with howdens they have a void so you cant have your bolts as far back but like ikea kitchens you can.

Der is slight play but very small though I have found it to be less than other jigs I have used but I cnt really remember.

Im using the cutter which comes with the jig reversible blade groove cutter HW shank 12 mm
I think its a brilliant cutter last ages and its easy to sharpen!

isnt the festool cutter a 14mm bit?

I jst copied and pasted from the festool site lol I didnt even look lol!  It says shank 12 mm so  hold on ill look what mine actually is

Oh woodGuy!   Just wondering why do you need a jig which can do 45degree cut?  I know its similar to the butt joint the angle is different though but if your are doing a 45degree joint it would only be for the appearance as its little more difficult to do  I would just do a normal 45degree joint with out that extra kick of an angle no? cus then it would create a line not 45 at the start defeating the appearance no?  As you would normally only do a 45degree joint like if it was a laminate with wood affect not on something which looks like granite or corian or am I way out ?

No, i know what you are saying.  When i have a cut like that to do i just do a straight cut.  Its just that my jig CAN do a 45deg  joint.

What price are the Festool worktop cutters ?  Probably about £156.00 + vat  ;D

Haaa haaa lol!  You was just trying to show off your jig lol!

Rexy told me they would be about £50 quid ish I think cnt really remember!   which he has some instock for me when I order some stuff from him next! the annoying thing is!!! you get the little hex key with it again with the cutters! Which is annoying cus your paying for it!  And you only need one cus u dont wear them out do ya!

Its not that bad priced really I think if you think 4 cutters equals 8 cutters as its double sided! Well a decent normal cutter is about £12-18  sooooo would cost you more for 8 of them and a good cutter is like £20 no?!   PLUS its really easy to sharpen on a diamond stone so they last longer but they last along time any way they are decent blades!

I have never had a problem with the blade moving!  It self aligns it has two grooves one vertical one horizontal  horizontal one keeps the blade at the correct hight  it has a secondary small little cutter attached to the main cutter which is permanently attached for plunge cutting.  The vertical one is slight tapered which pulls the blade parallel to the cutter when you tighten it up.

think i looked up the wrong tips. but the replaceable tips i use are double sided and cost about £6.

My jig will do the 45 joint although i always just do a straight joint in those situations (corner sink/hob) sometimes i use a plinth if its a long one, i get my cutters re-sharpened for about a fiver i think, if its a private job i just bung a new cutter on the price.

my local place charges £3 a cutter to sharpen

I always charge for a new cutter!   I always say I need a new cutter for every worktop job!   Once though the client when he got howdens to drop the kitchen off he got them to supply me a cutter so I had to use the trend cutter!  I didnt want to cus I like using my cutters you know what I mean?  You dont want to use other stuff when you know what you regularly use works !  but I couldnt use mine and just take the cutter he would be thinking wa u doing thought you needed a new cutter!  Oops!  The cutter was fine I pretty sure it was loosing it edge on the 4th cut though

I do mine thru jewsons dean who use a company about half hours drive from me, i know jewson add 30%! Need to find out where it is as my dewalt 718 needs a new bearing before i can sell it and they do repairs too
