Every time I try to access the Festoolusa site it winds up in Canada.  I've done some searches for relevant threads but haven't located one.  Does someone know why this might be happening?  Thanks.

I have also noticed that - and that the prices are not available it says "see dealer for pricing". Are you in Canada?

My apologies.

As you can see, we now have a Canadian version of our website.  There was a problem that was causing some US visitors to be redirected to the Canadian site.  This should now be resolved.  Could those who were experiencing problems please close your browser and then open it and try again?  Please report any problems directly to me at sho@festoolusa.com as I will not be checking the forum.

Thank you,
Shane

It's working now for me.  Thanks to all.

Thanks for reporting this to the forum.

This is just one of the many ways that the company can benefit from communication with this supportive user community.

I don't know what's going on here, but I still only get the Canadian version... Ok, I'm in Canada, maybe that makes a difference, but I would still like to be able to check the US site.
Any idea?

A well-functioning corporate Web site is vital, and if there are problems the compny needs to know about them and make corrections.

EcoFurniture,
Since Shane (Festool's Web guy) is not checking the forum, can you write to Festool and ask about this, then, would you mind posting the answer you get here so we can all see it?

Thanks,
Matthew

I was talking to Dan Clermont the other night and he told me all Canadian IP will be automatically directed to the new Festool Canada site.

Since I cannot view the US Festool site anymore, I guess I have to look at Rocklers website for US prices. I like to compare and contrast (US prices converted to CAD VS. Hafele quote) to make sure I'm not getting completely hosed. It seems fishy that I'm not able to even access the US Festool website - what are they trying to hide that I can't find out any other way?

...just weird,if somebody can explain that would be great.

Not sure if it'll help, you might try clearing your Web Cookies.  I don't think there's a big conspiracy by Festool.

Just received a reply from Festool USA. It is correct, we as Canadians can no longer access the US site :o I guess they want to protect the Canadian retailers--understandable, but to me it feels like we are getting a kick in the butt .
Don't get me wrong! I like Dan from Ultimate Tools, great service and a really nice guy!
Well hafele... not much to say about them. I had to beg for a price list and catalog for almost a year now! Today I finally received one. Guess what, the 2008 one.... of course not price list included. We have to call to find out, that's what they told me.

As a small business owner, I have no other choice then to shop around. But don't have the time or energy to do so. Just for comparison: Festool US has the Kapex listed at $1300, hafele $1500 and Ultimate is at $1800.  Of course it's a free market and we all have to make a living, but considering all the difficulties AND the cost involved in a festool purchase I'm not sure I can stay with that brand....

Just my 2 cents

Don't Know what they're playing at?  Accessing festoolusa via festool.com from the UK get taken to the Canadian site.

Why don't you get in touch with Dan Clermont - a long time Fogger who has recently become a Festool Dealer in Canada.  Dan has been a participant here and a straight shooter.  http://www.ultimatetools.ca/

Peter

I know Dan and respect him as a straight forward guy. He was and is always helpful! As mentioned before, I have nothing bad to say about him. After all I wish him much success, we all need it right now!.
Dan, I hope I didn't step too much on your tows  ;)

Anyhow, I was just letting go of some excess steam that was building up for the last couple of days.... The whole festool situation here in Canada is just a bit strange. You guys in the states can go to any retailer you want and pay the same. We up here, only have two retailers. One that is time consuming to deal with and another that (I assume for good reason) had to increase his pricing to a point were it is just not feasible for us small businesses anymore to buy new tools.

It also didn't help that we are now "completely cut" off from festool USA.

Enough said.  ::)

Hello Andreas,

No offence has been taken. I was surprised to recieive a flyer from Hafele as well offering the KAPEX at $1591Cdn. Considering all retailers in Canada must abide by the pricing set by Festool USA.

This is a very touchy subject for me as I've spent a considerable amount of time trying to build a supportive relationship with Festool User's in Canada.

Early In Febuary, I signed a dealer agreement with Festool USA. That agreement had several conditions and the most important condition was to provide the best service possible to Canadian's. I've worked hard to try and make sure each and every Canadian has top notch support with the Festool product line and if ANYBODY has an issue with a Festool product in Canada they should contact me to make sure it gets resolved to their satisfaction. It makes no difference to me where you bought the product from.

When I signed the dealer agreement I also promised to follow the pricing set out by Festool USA. When Canadian's purchase these tools we need to remember the their is duty and brokerage fees involved when the tools are shipped north of the border and unfortunately that plays a part in  the current Canadian prices.

If you compare the Canadian price vs other countries you may find that the prices in Canada are still cheaper then most prices around the world. Sure, the US may charge $1300 for a KAPEX but if you import that saw into Canada you will pay duty, taxes in the US and also in Canada.

For example:

If a customer drove down to Seattle and bought a KAPEX they would pay Washington State Tax ($1300 x 1.065 = $1385), exchange rate ($1385US x $1.275 =  $1765 Cdn)  plus whatever duty the Canadian border boys and girls would like to charge. The Canadian price set by Festool is $1788 which is a $23 difference.

Hi Dan,

I much appreciate your reply! Thanks.

You are a man that works really hard on building his business and reputation, I admire that and know first hand how much energy that takes! Keep up the good work.

Funny that hafele is willing to loose that much money on a kapex! i'm also surprised that they don't follow the rules....

From what I have read on this forum, if Hafele followed the rules and provided the service that Festool and Festool owners expected and deserved, Dan C. might not have become a dealer.  I'm fortunate to live in USA and to have multiple options for Festool products.  I'm happy that people living in Canada now have another choice.  I have met Dan C. and believe he is determined to serve well.

In defence of Hafele,

I ordered a product from Hafele recently and UPS did what they do best, they delivered it to the wrong house on my street, anywho ... I called Hafele and they resolved the issue lickity split. They even said that if I had trouble retreiving my packages that they would just send out new ones and they would deal with UPS themselves.

Hafele was on the ball here. Long-story-short: I got what I ordered, Hafele had excellent customer service, and UPS goes on being the worst - unapologetic - disaster of a delivery service.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to meeting Dan tomorrow. I'm sure he's a cool dude.

Some ISPs, such as Verizon, have recently started using some new IP address ranges and that is causing some redirection to country specific sites in an incorrect manner. A few databases "out there" were not correctly configured to understand that the IP addresses are in the US, rather than Canada. (and some other countries)
