I am making a few shelves for the bathroom, and was thinking of using shellac or lacquer, but does anybody have a better recommendation.  Ideally I would like to keep the look as natural as possible.

Thanks
Bryan

Since this will be a bathroom i would avoid shellac since many cosmetics and cleaners contain alcohol which is a solvent to shellac.  You could choose a water based poly crylic which is very clear.

I forgot to mention that these shelves will be over the toilet and will house pictures and other decorative items.

I'd use Penofin Verde.

What is Penofin Verde?  Never heard of it.

Penofin makes wood stains and finishes for interior and exterior use. Penofin Verde is their environmentally-friendly wood stain which I used for an indoor swimming pool deck so I thought it could work for you in a bathroom.

Thank you for the link.  I will keep in mind and do some research.
