Flattening a Slab table top with the Festool Router Sled

Carl,
Great piece and a great technique.  I hobbled together a sled to flatten my traditional workbench, but the extrusions are a great idea. 
How do you like working with Myrtle?  Does it machine crisply?

Is there a 2200 in one of those systainers to test out possible sled deflection because of the added weight?

Myrtle is nice to work with but... there's lot of defects in it, it varies widely in color and grain, and there's not much available.  Picking boards that matched was a challenge as was working around/with the defects.

I'd say my 1400 was right on the edge of causing deflection - I took light cuts and put no pressure on the router itself as I slid it back and forth and ended up with a flat surface.  However in testing the setup, I could easily deflect the sled in the middle if I put any weight on it.  So I would say a 2200 could cause deflection...

After getting Tage Fride's book, I was thinking about making one of these from 8020 stuff.  Has anyone made their own sled for use on an MFT?
