FOGTAINER UPDATE - Lovely Green Light

Hey Peter,

Are the Fogtainers going to have 2+2 green/grey latches, or four Festool green latches?  I'm hoping for the latter.  ;-)

The FOGtainers will have six latches included.  Four matching dark blue and two Festool green inside.  This will keep the cost down.  For those who ultimately want all the latches to be green, they other two can always be ordered separately.  For those who have other systainers already, the extra blue latches can be used to color code their other systainers.

Peter,

That's great news! I need some extra latches in another colour!

Others have already said it, but thanks for all your work on bringing this project to life!

Tim,

There are two 'green' colours that Tanos manufacture & sell, neither of which is 'Festool green'. Tanos make the Festool green latches specially for Festool, and they will not sell that exact shade to anyone else. That MaxiSys is a 'special edition', again produced exclusively for Festool.

Festool has given Peter permission to purchase the Festool green latches through Tanos. These latches are a standard item for Tanos, and presumably they hold stock for Festool. In theory (if Festool gave permission) we could have handles in Festool green, however these are not a standard item & would have to be specially made. This would mean a minimum order of several thousand pieces (I can't remember the exact figure, but Peter did explore this & the quantities were unrealistic for the FOGtainers).

I hope that clears it up for everyone.

Thanks Johnny Round Boy for the info.I've come in at the eleventh hour and don't know the full history.

Hi guys,
I have followed the development of the unique Systainer in the forum.

Will it be possible for us European foggers to get hold of this exclusive edition?

Will it be a mini version later?

//Micklen

Micklen,

I plan to ship to wherever the member is.  We have interest from Europe, North America, Australia, South Africa, and even Russia.

So, yes.  But whereas they are going to be coming from the US, I don't know at this point if the costs for shipping, import taxes, etc will make sense for you.

There are no plans on my part to do a mini.  The mini is not standardly available in the blue color.  The cusom manufacturing would require a huge quantity and cost.

Send me a pm with what sizes you might be interested in so that I can put you on the potential purchaser list.

Peter

wow you guys really are getting wrapped up in something that holds tools.  I am more concerned with working and making money than what color the box is my tool comes in or what I store items in.  I don't mean to come off the wrong way but what is wrong with the normal festool systainers?  might have been easier to just have like dark blue latches made with FOG on them or something.    Good luck in your Fogtainer endeavor.

Nothing is wrong with them but it's like asking why you buy a special edition anything, because it is a special edition and in this case to show support for Peter and FOG. Oh and Festool systainers aren't FOGtainers. I don't know how much they cost but I would love to buy that t-shirt.

Umm.. Welcome to forum    [blink]

I'm working and making money, and in my free time I like to decorate my workshop with expensive things.  Oh, and get better organized so I can move and use my tools and accessories around more efficiently, and therefore spend more time with my kids.

Maybe they're just sort of like a club thing... ya know, like Harley shirts and baseball caps.

I grew up putting tools in mud buckets. Systainers are far more efficient and allow me to spend time doing better things than looking for that damn .... that I need right now.
Fogtainers are just the festoolian version chrome rims on your car, an Armani suit over a Sears suit, etc. If work becomes only work without some fun added in, that's a real drag.

Thanks for the welcome.  i joined recently but don't post often.
my only gripe with systainers are their expense.  i like how they can stack and organize but they could charge half of what they charge and still make good money on them.    the ones from FOG will be even more expensive.  My point is that I rarely catch myself looking at my systainers because they are in my trailer and only get used when i'm working and I take the tool out and use it.  To each their own.  I understand some guys on here are hobbyists and not business owners, no biggie.

There are certainly two or more schools of thought regarding the Fogtainers.  I treat my systainers just like you do.  Mine are scratched, dirty, beat up, labels falling off or missing.  Yet I have been involved in two projects - one was about making labels for members and sending them away at my expense, and the second one is this project.

In the first project I got personal satisfaction by seeing the excitement and camaraderie develop.

This project is the result of a couple of international members working together on an idea and bringing it to the brink of happening.  I stepped up and made some inquiries.  Some very influential and kind people have been active behind the scenes to make this possible, and as part of the agreement I made to make this happen I stated that I would not profit from this endeavor.  So your statement that these special edition Fogtainers will cost more would be accurate except for the fact that I have managed to get a once in a lifetime deal, I have no profit motive, and I have donated time and will donate more.  I will end up with the prototype that will be printed all over with mistakes and experiments as something to remember this project by.  Unless something happens that is so out of the blue that I have not anticipated, buyers will be able to purchase these customized products at less than retail.  They will pay for shipping on top.  Included in the cost will be everything involved in this project except my time - including the cost of the prototype, costs to get the prototype printed, plates for printing, boxes, packing materials, shipping to me, etc.

For those patient enough to see this thru to the end, I anticipate the possibility of a special added bonus that will included at no additional charge.  It might cost you money in the end, but it will not be because of this project and the price that you pay will not be affected.  I am not allowed to say anything more.  If it happens it will be cool.

Agar,  I own and operate two companies.  One of those companies operates for others four other companies.  This project is insane from the business sense, but on the day that I hear that the last Fogtainer has arrived safe and sound, and I read about the excitement, I will go look at my reflection in the mirror, give that guy a thumbs up, go pour myself a celebatory drink and make a toast to those who really made this happen - the Jonathan, Wayne, Franck, Christian, Shane, and all the other patient members here.

Then I will be bored and will look for something else to do - BIGGER!

Peter

And let me toss in another thank-you to Peter for the project, time, ingenuity, and, well, for being Peter.  [big grin]

I'm fine with you guys doing.  I was just surprised with the passion for a systainer.  I wouldn't have thought you would profit at all, thought never crossed my mind.
Good luck with rest of the deal.  the only systainers I can afford are the ones that come with the tools.

I don't want people to think that I'm angry that you are making them.  I wouldn't have thought there would be a desire for something like that until I saw this thread.  I am still new to this site but have had festool tools for 4-5 years and love them.  saving up for the kapex someday.

Apgar,

All is good guy!  Festool and the FOG have a way of making people enthusiastic or passionate.  It is totally acceptable to give opinions here.  All we ask is that posters keep it polite, inoffensive, and civil.  You certainly have done that.  [thumbs up] We look forward to your visits and posts in the future!

P.S.  I also haven't been able to save up for a Kapex yet.  I'm also working on that.

Peter

Kapex smapex.  I'm saving for some FOGtainers.  I could cut a clean miter with a beaver if I had to [cool]. I can't however store or manage my tools without systainers.  Especially cool limited edition ones.

Paul, thank you for that.  But I am only a part of this.  Jonathan and Wayne are the ones who deserve.  I would have never thought about this.  I don't have the skills to imagine, design, and illustrate like they do.

Certainly didn't mean to leave anybody out!

Don't be spoil sport.   [tongue]

Of course the regular systainers do the job, but some of use want something special as a souvenir and are willing to pay for it [thumbs up].

My regular systainers get lots of use and abuse and have stood up well.  My fogtainers will also be used but I intend to handle them more carefully.

I like putting my other tools and supplies in systainers.
It is one of the last ways I can save some real time.

It will be cool to have a few and I can get some good use out of them as well.

Keep at it Peter,  [thumbs up]
