AS PROMISED:

To all my friends here who are participating in the Fogtainer project, I want you to know that I have been quieter than normal and not have offered updates in the manner that I had planned due to some personal issues.  I don’t want to discuss my issues, I am ok,  and rest assured that the project is underway and that your interests have been protected.

Currently I have 2 pallets of systainers here at the printers.  The sheer success of the project and the vision of 6 pallets of systainers sitting in my living room at one time has caused me to make a decision and to ask for your help.  I want to ship these two pallets out early so that I can fine tune the logistics involved in dealing with 230 more at one time.

I am looking for understanding participants here in North America who have ordered and paid for their systainers to let me know if they can help me work out the logistics of dealing with 4 more pallets of these beautiful blue boxes.  I would love to work out the shipping costs, etc, and make sure that my living room is clear in time for the arrival of the remainder.  The hitch is that I made a blunder in an effort to save everyone money.  The Fogtainers here right now will have to be shipped without the two green latches.  In fact they will have to be shipped with only two latches.  I will have to ship to the volunteers the missing latches once I receive them.  They are with the shipment enroute from Germany.

The volunteers will not incur any additional cost for the shipping of the latches later.  Any assistance from you guys will be appreciated more than you can imagine.

If you are interested, please send me an email at fogtainer@gmail.com.  This will be done on a first come first serve basis based on the quantities available by size.  This will be handled off forum as per the original conditions of the project and participation that everyone agreed to by participating.

Thank you for your help!

PS.  Just to let you know, right now the vendor who will be printing these is finishing off an order for the US Marines and also American Woodmark Cabinets.  They do quality work.

Peter

WOW!

You guys are fabulous!  I have have had several offers of help.

I want to advise you that I almost instantly received a message of possible assistance with latches.  It could be that early participants in this might get theirs with green latches based on availability.

Peter

This is not one of my efforts to pump up enthusiasm.  This is more real than you know.

First I would Ike to say thank you to all those who have volunteered and have sent emails.  Your support and understanding means so much to me as this project approaches the crunch time.

Spent part of the day today researching the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and doing paperwork for customs.  Fun reading if you are looking to cure your insomnia.  Who ever thought up all those categories anyway?  Why should the tariffs for a plastic tool box be 76% higher than those for plastic shipping containers and carrying cases (5.3% versus 3%)? [dead horse]

The shipment from Germany is scheduled to arrive in Baltimore around the 3rd of November.  Pray for good weather.  Then of course we will have to wait for the shipment to clear customs, etc.

I would like to thank Sean Ackerman for looking up and confirming my guess as to the applicable Hts code, and I hope that you all will cherish your plastic "boxes, cases, crates, and similar items" and find creative ways to use them "for the conveyance or packing of goods".

Peter

Surely, a systainer could be classed as a 'carrying case' (@3%) rather than a 'tool box' (@5.3%)?

You put stuff in them (not necessarily tools, BTW) and carry them from one place to another...

That's definately true for me.  I expect that almost half of my systainers are used to carry stuff rather than tools.

Today was to be the day to print the first batch.  I know, no picts, it didn't happen.
Look at part of the 2 pallets of stuff here.  Remember, this is about one third of the total.  You are not seeing them all in these picts.

Notice how the latch stands out against the blue.  Yes, I also brought my Festool safety glass case in to also serve as a color match reference.

How did they turn out you ask?  They didn't.  I refused the color match.  They are ordering new ink.

Two hours wasted.

Stay tuned.

Peter

Couldn't help but  [big grin] at all those systainers lined up!
The blue/green looks awesome.
