So who's going to win the superbowl this year??  Any browns fans in the house?  Take it easy on me, I know they stink! :D

What do you guys think about the Brett Farve Situation?  I would first like to say that I enjoyed watching him for the many years that he played in the NFL.  I really do rank him in the top 5 quarterbacks of all time or just outside of the top 5.  After that said, he's really changed my attitude about how I feel about him.  I understand he loves the game of football and has a great deal of passion for it but I can't get over what he has done to the fans and his teammates.  The "is he coming back this year"  or "is he retiring" deal has been going on for a long time.  Before he officially retired each year we waited and waited to see if he said he was going to play next year or not.  That does have a effect on his team and coaches.  How do you plan for something when you don't even know if your QB is going to play next year and he always waiting until the last minute.  Now the first time he retired I had a lot of respect for what he said in his press conference regarding why he quit and everything.  He even cried about it which had me convinced.  Then he came back to the jets and caused a lot of problems before the season started and after.  Number one, he made the Starting QB leave the jets to go to Miami.  Now a week ago he said he was done for sure and now here we are again, he's playing.  Unreal.  I just don't like the how he effects so many people by these actions. The other problem is that he finished his career on a good note.  Whats going to happen this year? If I was him I would have wanted to leave the last year he was with the packers and stay out.  He can risk his health by playing since he is so old.

Sorry if I was rambling, I needed to get that out.

Well, the brownies could use a QB and perhaps should have looked at Farve...  oh wait they would never spend that kind of money on Farve and besides they have more holes than a Swiss cheese on that team....SAD...  Unfortunatley, I think the browns will battle it out with the bengals for last place in the division...but they should get a high draft choice...

Farve is a great QB and a tough competitor but not a top 5 all time QB.  I would put Unitas, Montana, Marino, Namith ahead of Farve for impact on the game and NFL and those are just the QBs from western PA.  We have not even talked about Young, Bradshaw, Rothlisberger or the Manning brothers...

I think the Steelers have a real shot at repeating in the Superbowl as they had the hardest schedule last year and went through it with relative ease.  This year should be easier and they are a year more experienced.  They need to keep grounded and not get caught up in the hype of being the champions...
Baltimore will remain their biggest rivals and challenge I believe.

Best,
Todd

I also think the Packers handled the situation in the best manner they could by just letting him go and moving on with their team and their future QB.  My son is a huge Packers and Farve fan...but you just can't go through this drama every year when you know his career is all but over after about 20 seasons...
Farve is a great QB and a sure HOFer and his record of not missing games will likely not be matched by any other QB, he is just not a top five all time in my book... as he didn't dramatically impact the game as others have in the past.

Best,
Todd

Dave,
The Favre thing never bothered me.  I think he has a passion for the game that doesn't allow him to simply walk away.  Well . . .  that and maybe tens of millions of dollars!  Supply and demand.

Joe

I hear you man, somethings bother people more than others.  I didn't want it to bother me but it just did,  It slowly came upon me.

I remember when Nolan Ryan (different sport) was already Hall of Fame material and he was given away to the Rangers by that French team in Houston, L'Astros. They wouldn't pay him much more than a journeyman player so he got "happy feet".

If I'm not mistaken, he pitched his last no-hitter in Dallas the next season.

Roger Clements was involved in similar retiring, not-retiring, retiring, not-retiring sorts of drama.

I think it increases their draw from TV commercials.

It's pretty hard to blame them when they produce, but if they fail on the field???

Tom

I agree too, You can't blame them if they do produce but I just don't like what effect it has on the coaches, players and fans.

I think the insiders understand that it is a business and treat it as such while the fans look at it and take it much differently.  The insiders get over it and move on just like they don't dwell on a lost game...they have their next game to prep for this week.  And besides they have those large paychecks to help ease the pain....

Best,
Todd
