Beautiful dogs Peter.

Thank you Richard!

I have been blessed over the years.  I have had up to 4 at one time.  Thinking about getting a brother or sister for MacGyver.  But please don't tell my wife.  She has been begging for more than a year.

Mr. Moose - Black Lab - 14 years
Zorro - Black Lab / English Setter Mix - 18 years
Blazer - White Golden Retriever - 16 years
Shadow - Newfoundland / Lab Mix - 12 years

Sophie, our first Newfoundland, didn't know about Festool but she really did like going to the lumber yard and hardware store.
I know she would have appreciated Festools [smile]

Maggie, our current Newfie, definitely likes Festools and being in the workshop.
She even has her own Fog Hat!

I have taken my male Dogue's into Home Depot on several occasions. He has since past.  I would take my female but when she sees someone she starts running because she thinks they are there to give her attention.  They both weighed 140 lbs.

Don great looking DDB's!  The one on the couch has the same look as mine, but she only likes the couch in winter.  Unfortunately she was just diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

Congratulations!  Do they shop at Rockler?  [eek]  Have you introduced them to Festool yet?

Not poking fun at you but the other thread.  Cute pups!  Hope Mom is doing well.

Peter

unfortunately, there isnt a Rockler store near me.  However, I have never taken my dogs into any stores.  My two dogs are farm dogs, never been on a leash in their life.  They are VERY well behaved, as I instill manners on all my dogs from a very early age.  They ride in the back of my truck on a daily basis though, and I love having them along for the ride.

As for the pups, all eight, as well as mom, are doing great so far.  They are almost 5 weeks old.  I have raised animals all my life (cattle, hogs, chickens, rabbits, goats, turkeys......), but this is my first litter of pups.  I have to say, they might be my favorite baby animal of all, and thats saying a lot if you've ever been around baby goats before.

I can't stand it when people take their dogs into stores.  Seems to me that not too long ago you couldn't do that unless it was a service dog.

Sorry, i don't want to be subjected to your dog when i am trying to buy some lumber or whatnot.

I think in part it started with the celebrity women on tv that carried their small dogs around like fashion accessories.  As the trend of having small dogs became so popular others thought if Kim Kardashian can take her dog everywhere then surely I can too.  Well that and the shear selfishness of people today.

Dog owners know that not all people are "dog people".  What they seem to be oblivious to just how many people aren't into your dog.  What they see as a dog owner are the overwhelmingly positive encounters you have when the take your dog out to the store.  What has been missed are the people like Darcy and myself that may go out of our way to avoid you and your dog at the store.

One other thing, you guys are kidding yourselves that your dog is well behaved.  Sure some dogs are, as in a very small percentage are truly well behaved.  I know pretty much everyone of you dogs owner are saying I don't know your dog, because if I did I'd see he is a good dog.  Sure, just like everyone says they walk out of the casino ahead...

I have no misconceptions that my dogs are not well behaved all the time...just as some people with their children.

I get what you are saying and also agree Warner.

I love dogs and our yellow lab too and I've personally never taken our dog in to any stores, ever. I don't think that stores are the proper place to bring your animal in to and subject others to your animal. Just my opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs, so please don't flame me  [tongue]

Not everyone is in to your dog or mine and many stores here don't allow them due probably to complaints and possibly lawyers looking to their legal liability under the Occupiers Liability Act (Canada).

I am more on the side of not having dogs in the store and I am a big dog lover!  I had English Mastiffs growing up and as much as they are giant dogs, they are generally as gentle as a lamb. But... Not everyone knows that.

Recently I saw two "dogs in stores" incidents...

One person not only brought their dog into a construction recycling store, but they brought in 5 dogs!  5 medium sized dogs who were going anywhere and everywhere.  That was very rude in my book and that person had no common sense.

The other was at HD and I ran in with my two kids to get a few items and this lady came around the corner with her full size poodle and came directly up to my kids and asked them if they wanted to pet her. My daughter looked at the lady and said "no thanks" and went back to looking at "parts for her fairy garden". The lady was obviously taken back and said "she is a real friendly dog" to which my daughter replied, "but she is ugly and has nasty eye boogers around her eyes".

She got huffy puffy and left the isle quickly mouthing "how I raised a rude little girl" and so I shouted that she wasn't the rude one... But she sure is honest!

I think it was rude to assume that all kids want to pet dogs, and try to force yours on my children. They know better than to approach a strange dog but they weren't prepared when the approach was to them.

I loved my 5 year old a little bit more that day.

Cheers. Bryan.

You may not know this, but I have tons of google links to prove it, there are some places in Europe, where...

Yeah, I know - where well-behaved infant children send their ill-mannered parents to play inside with their equally ill-mannered dogs and curmudgeonly contractors, meanwhile waiting to prey on the gentle homeless people...  [big grin]

Stores attrach all sorts.  Dog lovers dog haters and all sorts in-between,

The ones I don't like are the ones that loiter in the middle of the asile way hating with their long lost buddy. or just standing infant of the stuff I came to get not getting the stuff whats directly in front of them and not moving so anyone else can get in there and get there stuff. the maroons who leave their carts full of ply and timber right in the centre of the aisle unattended and get offended if ya move it out of the way so ya can get by with my cart fluff ply and timber..

Now no one is asking anyone to interact accept or agree with us who bring our babies into the stores with us. I don't understand what the big deal is, ya don't like them don't pet them interact with them, acknowledged them what ever go get yer stuff pay and get out.

Now about my sweetie
Before she passed ,

I would bring my little girl everywhere with me.

Im not asking anyone to like my girl, I really don't care if you do or no.

But if she is allowed in the store she's going in the store.

You don't like it, take it up with the owner, manager or go somewhere else.

As I said about Rocklers, they gave me grief about her so I went somewhere else.  They lost my business and kept those who don't like dogs in the stores.

If you don't like it you don't have  shop there find another place like I did.

no one has to interact with her.

I don't care if anyone thinks she's cute or whatever she's my girl not theirs.

BTW all she did was walk around sniffing things, she was a one family dog, she wouldn't go to you other then a quick sniff and on her way to look around and sniff something else.

She was a cool little thing, Id be in the shop and she'd walk in look at me Id pick her up set her on my MFT shed walk around it sniffing seeing what I was doing, then I put her down and shed walk away tail in the air all happy.

I do miss her so

I feel the same way about men who wear tank tops or sandals in restaurants.

My little girl (of the human variety--just want to make sure I specify that to avoid confusion), had the greatest time just now looking through all the wonderful dogs on this thread.  She found it a perfect opportunity to ask yet again for one of her own.  I would be most happy to oblige her once she is a little bit older and  she can demonstrate that she will take a little bit of the responsibility in taking care of the pet.  For future reference, I asked which she liked best and it was close between a bunch of them, but I think that finally Peter's Goldie Hawn came out on top.  Beautiful choice, I agreed.

I couldn't help but wonder what would happen if these great and friendly-seeming dogs ALL ended up in the same store together, because of their owners desires to share their precious pups with the other store goers.  I'm sure they would all get along--no worries there.  I can't possibly imagine a downside to that scenario...

We have a close friend who had a great big black poodle.  "Friendliest dog ever", he would say.  Absolutely true; the dog would "love you to death", literally.  At the very least, you would come away from each encounter with a muddied and heavily bruised solar plexus from the dog's insistence that you know that he was ready for play.  Good times...

I wonder if I can train my future dog to run a spell check app on my forum posts.  What I'm assuming the above poster is getting at is that he is much better at getting along with the canine species than the fellow human species.  If that's the case, fair enough, we've all seen plenty of that in life--just put the money in the dog's mouth and let her go in the store alone.  It's a win-win.
