Our beagle is close to 11 years old and here you see her in her favorite position---snoozing.  We got her about 9 years ago as a rescue of sorts.  The breeder she belonged to had her living in a plywood box in a shed in his backyard. He bred beagles for one reason only---for hunters---and Trudy was gun-shy and wouldn't hunt.  The poor thing was scared of her shadow and it took months before she was able to settle into a comfortable routine where she didn't hide all the time.

We have to keep her on the leash even inside the house because, being a beagle, and  if left to her own devices, she will spend all her time following her nose and getting into "trouble" .

This is Ralf.  He's half golden-half lab.  I'm embarrassed to say he doesn't like water.  Look at his picture.  Is this a happy dog?  ??? ???  What's up with that?  I told him he was going to be drummed out of the lab corp if he didn't learn to like the water but to no avail.  He can swim, we have carried him into the pool on occasion but under duress.  He's a big baby, though.  He does get the newspaper for me every morning so that's worth something.

I lost my best friend Rufus less than a month after posting his picture here. It's like a part of me has been missing ever since. I just saw this in the recents and saw his picture. Man oh man I miss him. Give your best friend a hug and let him or her know how much they mean.

Winter is coming. Already the nights are dropping to around freezing. So it's time to get the fire lit. And the dog has found a new favourite spot.
