I have about a half a can of Formby's Low Gloss Tung Oil Finish in my house.  I went online to Amazon.com and see it listed at $225.00 for 32 ounce can.  How does that make sense?

Not exactly sure of the nature of your question, can you please elaborate?

A comparable volume of Rubio 2C in "Pure" goes for $170+shipping, $220+ for some of their more highly tinted products.

I see that Formby's seems to be discontinued, perhaps that accounts for the presumably unexpected cost for an oil/finish blend?

Scarcity. If that's the last can available maybe there is someone so unimaginative (can't use anything else) that they think they have to buy it no matter the price.

[member=74278]Packard[/member] that’s from a third party seller not Amazon

Watco tung oil finish is currently $23 at Home Depot

I didn't realize that Formby's was out of production.  I made a sample board using the Formby's I had in house and I was very happy  with it. Formby's made a satin version.  All the other vendors make a gloss version only.

I will make up a new sample board using what is available now.

Thanks for the replies.

Minwax took over Formby's.  They claim that the Minwax Tung Oil is the same formulation, but they are not offering "low gloss finish".
