Hi, I have been given this frame design for a car port. To me it has several glaring issues structurally. Any advise on what is wrong with this design would be greatly appreciated. Want some advice please as I am always jumping to my own conclusions on design and don't always see it clearly. Thank you in advance. Don't hold back now......

It looks to me like the side walls are missing a horizontal beam at truss height to prevent the side walls from collapsing toward their own centre. Unless the spaces will be filled with bricks?

Any comment I have would not apply due to the differences in how we build. I find framing that way very weird.

Is the client milling his own lumber?  What size and spacing are the components?  It sure is unconventional.

Structures with similar components are build all the time by timber framers. I am not one, so I can’t be of assistance, but I’ve seen enough pictures to state that what is proposed is possible to build.  There may be concepts in your drawing that require tweaking and a qualified timber framer could help with that.

I hope you are able to build this structure. There are too many artsy aspects of construction like this that are quickly being lost to the ages either because of bureaucracy or laziness. Best of luck to you.
