French Doors Help

I'm in the process of making interior French Doors using the Freud router door set AND the domino.  I need some help with the glass installation or any other suggestions.  A single glass sheet will be used for each door (Simulated Divided Lite Doors). Each door will be  1 3/8" thick with the rabbets (glass stops) about 1/2" thick which should leave an opening of 3/8" for the glass. I'm planning on using 1/8" thick tempered glass.

Freud recommends that I use glazing tape and leave a 1/8" gap around the door between the glass and stiles (and rails).  How do I prevent rattle.  Also do I put glazing tape on both sides of the glass?  In theory,  If I use 1/8" thick glazing tape on both sides of the glass then it would seem to fill in my 3/8" opening.  Any suggestions on preventing glass rattle?

I've search the Web last night and discovered "CRL Setting Blocks" although I'm unsure how to use them.  Do these fill the 1/8" gap to prevent rattle?

Thanks a bunch for help or suggestions!

I am not sure I understand.
Are you saying you are going to put 1/8" thick glass in a 3/8" wide groove?

I always make the groove width just slightly wider than the thickness of the glass.
I would make the glass stops just slightly under 5/8" wide, leaving the glass groove slightly over 1/8".

Not sure if these apply to glass instead of wood panels but based on the reviews, people are using them for that

Correct - the gap is 3/8" for the glass per Freud although I'm happy to change if its better.

For glass - Is 1/8" thick appropriate for French doors?  Or should I go thicker to fill in the gap?  You mention 5/8 but do you use glazing tape? Or anything to prevent rattle?

Spaceballs!  Do I use them in conjunction with glazing tape?  I'm a little confuse with using glazing tape and if I should use it for both sides of the glass. My initial thoughts were to use 1/8" thick tempered glass and 1/8" thick glazing tape on both sides of the glass to fill in a 3/8" gap.

Thanks for the help! Much appreciated.

How do I prevent rattle.

Glazing tape has a foam layer between the sticky adhesion layer(s). The glass sitcks to it and the foam absorbs the vibration and dampens the rattle.

No. Generally the glazing tape is used on one side and then the stop is added to the other without tape. This makes it easier to remove the glass stop to remove the glass if it is cracked or broken.

See above. The glazing tape is applied to the wooden mullion or frame and then the glass is put on the tape.

It's a good idea to put some "setting blocks" on the bottom sides and top of the glass. You don't need the CRL blocks, you can buy some 1/16"-1/8" thick rubber available at your glass suppliers. It is on a roll and you cut into the proper width and short strips 2-3 " long to fit. You can use any type of rubber. Really you are just looking to protect the glass edge from resting on the wood frame, chipping and cracking.
If you are going to use the 1/8" glass you need to cut the profile on your door and mullions so the rabbet is thinner to accommodate the thickness of the glass  and the glazing tape. Alternatively you can get a profile that is deeper or use thicker glass.

I have not seen glass grooves done that way. I want a solid stop on each side of the glass.

Can be done, just a large project to change the glass if it breaks...

Why would it be a larger job to change glass?
The stop on one side is removable the way I make them.

Is the glass in the Freud system held in by magic?

Panaligns work better than Space Balls when using glass.

I would use 1/4" tempered glass. I prefer it, no other reason.

1/2" rabbet, 1/8" tape, 1/4" glass, 1/2" stop.

Do not catch the edge of the glass.

Thanks !!! - I have a better understanding.  so base on Tom's reply ..

Profile Thickness:        1/2"
Stop  Thickness:        1/2"
Glass  Thickness:        1/4"
Glazing Tape Thickness : 1/8"

Total  = 1 3/8" which equal the door thickness.  Do I need to account for any compress with respect to the glazing tape?

Set the door flat, place the glass on the tape and measure for the stop. It will probably end up at 17/32".

Thanks Tom.  That helps - I notice the Panaligns are 7 mm thick therefore should I increase my 1/8" gap between the glass and door? Or will the Panaligns compress down.

After looking at Panaligns, It appears that they will work out fine with my 1/8" gap.  Thanks again for all of the help.
