FS 1400 55" rail problems .

First time using my 55" rail cutting 48" across sheet good . Is it me or the rail can't cut 48" . I keep movin rail to cut it . Was to short one way or the other . Do I need the 75" rail to cut it . Had the deflecter on the rail also . Does that matter at all . It says its suppose to cut up to 49" .

I use the 55" for cross cutting 48" all the time. I don't have the deflector on it though which I'm guessing is where your problem lies.
Just have to get a feel for where to place it so that both of the guides on the saw stay engaged on the track the whole time.

  The 55" rail is just long enough to cut 48" without having to plunge into the cut, but without the deflector.  And it needs to be positioned carefully for the run in / out. I use the 75" rail  to cross cut sheet goods it just makes things easier. Before I got the 75" rail, I placed a mark on the 55" rail to indicate where to position it in relation to the edge of the piece to ensure the proper run in /out lengths.

I agree what your saying . Don't understand why festool sells it as a 49" cutting length .

You have to allow a little more lead in. Both of the rail gibs need to be on the rail at the start of the cut. Exit the lead gib may lose the rail before the cut is complete.

No. When cutting sheet goods, the start of the rail overhangs the board. Then end of the rail can be almost flush. The blade will have cut the board well before the saw runs out of rail at the finish line.  [smile]

Skillman, you didn't mention (or I missed it) which saw you are using. As others have mentioned, the 1400 rail will work for the TS55 but it won't work for the TS75 without plunging.

I have the TS 55 REQ with just one rail the 55" .
