Sometimes I only need to know that 1/4" is about 6mm and 1/2" is about 12mm. There are other times however, when I really do need to know that 12mm is .472". For those occasions I came up with these. Printed them on an inkjet printer and attached them to my FS & FSK rails.

Always at the ready when using my track saws and routers.  [big grin]

The labels were laid out in Word. Consequently my printing was done in Word.

The labels were purchased from Onlinelabels.com. They're purchased by the sheet, no minimum. The label size is OL725CJ for an inkjet printer. The cost is $1.30 per sheet. I'd order a couple of extra sheets because every printer & computer seems to do things differently.

Remember to load the labels in upside down, that is the liner should be up, facing you.

I tried to attach the Word template but this site will not accept anything in a .doc format. Consequently I saved the Word template as a .pdf format and attached that instead. I don't know if that will cause issues or not.  [unsure]

Suggestion - try your local Staples or other office supply store.  Transparent mailing labels are pretty common, just not sure if this size is a specialty item best suited for online ordering or whether it's available in your local B&M.

Clever idea! I'm sure I could think of all sorts of useful data to put there. I wonder if it would be possible to put a scribable/erasable label on the part closest to the splinter strip, so as to use the whole thing as a story stick.

As an aside, looking at the original example I still can't get over the fact that the imperial system doesn't just use inches but divides them by powers of two!

The clear anodizing on the rail gives the aluminum a little tooth so you can write on the rail with a soft pencil. I’ve used mine like a sheet of paper for calculating measurements. I just wipe the pencil off with a moist towel.

Love this idea. I think I will make some with the addition of the undersized plywood I end up getting. Maple or birch Ply at my dealer is .703 inches or 45/64" or 17.85 mm.It would be good to have the same for "1/2" stuff
