no going back now!
machined a 10mm 3mm deep slot in the body of the fs-wa, next operation is to turn the slot into a dovetail to take a brass part that will slide along the dovetail and stick out making it anti tip with the guide rail attached
cheers

I don't understand what issue this is addressing.  I have the TSO version of this and I have not had a tipping issue.

something like this i presume, btw good on you for making your own it is a nice skill to have

yes thats what i'm making. i have plans on using the FS-WA as part of a hinge for an mft i'm building and this requires the top where the 4 taped holes are, to be flat. I'm waiting for the dovetail cutter to arrive then i can cut the rest of the slot. I've made a pair of brass sliders which will need machining to be a nice fit once the FS-WA has been machined

This is an image of the DXF file ive drawn up to machine dovetails in the ends of a sheet of 8x4 MR mdf. The idea is after the dovetails are routed and the sheet cut in half, the doevtail ends should interlock so it can then have the 20mm hole array routed.
Its at the cnc place now, should collect it this weekend

Got a couple of images of the top with the dovetails, he said it was a tight fit so will have to think of something to lubricate the dovetails with to stop them blowing
wax maybe?

Looks good! Rubbing some wax from a candle to make them slide in/out should work I think.

There are four threaded holes in the squaring arm.  Why not just run a thumbscrew through one of the holes and adjust the depth to keep it level?

using the FS-WA as a square, the 4 threaded holes are in free space, the edge of the FS-WA rides against the work piece with the guide rail going away from you so the edge needs an anti tip device
unless i'm not seeing something?

i used super glue along the edge of the mdf which soaks in, then sprayed an activator, made the edge quite hard and more 'blow' resistant

I didn't know I had a tip problem until I read these posts and I have been using the TSO squaring arms for about a year.  (The new Festool squaring arm is the TSO unit produced under license.)

So now that I know I have a tipping issue, I am going to think about how to resolve it.

Try some balance exercises and drink less.  [poke]  [big grin]

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Even stranger is that I am attempting to solve a problem that I don't have (but apparently should have).  [big grin]

finished item, not sure it was worth all the hassle tho but the key thing is the top is still flush as i want to use the FS-WA as part of a hinge mechanism for the mft
