I finished up the deck, but have been busy trying to get a 800sq/ft Ipe deck done and have not had much time to get the gate and fence finished up.

The gate and fence will go between the house and garage and match the front porch I built this year as well.

The gate and fence section will be glued together with West Systems Six10 Epoxy.

That looks really nice Darcy!  It's nice you had fairly level ground to contend with!  Is the white board PVC or painted wood?

Gorgeous work!

I second Woodguy - love the gate with the iron. Nice design.

Beautifully done but I don't like having a sunken entry. I would have kept the deck lower,  at the original door sill level.

Pretty nice Darcy, how did you oil it? I Built a Cumaru deck and use Penofin rosewood oil once a year. Brings back the color and slows the greying process.

Looking good Darcy!!!  Did you use the XL for the mortises?  Can't wait to see pics of the gate swinging.

great looking deck!  how about a night shot so we can see those LED's at work?  LOVE THE WOOD!  what kind of LED's did you use and where did you buy them if you don't mind me asking.  im thinking about doing a similar project with LED's.

I like it!    Just one thing like hockey_magnet  the only dislike is the lower section in front of the door.

What made you decided to do it like that?!?!?!

I use Messmer's Natural UV oil for Hardwoods.

I use a applicator pad on the end of a paint extension.

They are made by Deckorators and I get all my deck accessories from Decksdirect.com.

I will get a night shot after they finish up the landscaping.

Just the regular Domino, I did not have time to wait for the XL to come out.

As for the step down, that was the only way they were going to be able to get a deck.  These SA hardwoods need to have some room under them for air circulation.  I made vents in the perimeter and just installed some surface vents in the decking by the house.

We would have had to dig out at least 10" of soil to make a lower level work and they are the one's that wanted the 4'x4' step down by the door.

It was either that or a stamped concrete patio and they did not want concrete anymore (which is what was there).

I usually do what my customers want when they are paying me good money to do something.

I don't like the step down to the door either but totally understand what you are saying.  The customer is always right eh  ;)

The big issue with the door is that it is lower then the 1st floor of the house.

You go in that door to a small landing and either go straight into the basement or to the right up 2 stairs into the kitchen.

Spent the last two evenings installing the fence and hanging the gate.

Still have to install gate hardware, touch up paint, and touch up some oil.

The colour of the house is the only thing that lets it down.  The gate looks great but I think I would have made the side panel the same with the metal rails ?

Any night pics with those lights on the deck on ?

awesome looking deck.... and the gate came out real nice.. great job and thanks for sharing.
