Hi Everyone

I thought that you might like to see the new mini bolt cutters that I bought a couple of weeks ago. I need to cut a whole bunch of nails and my arthritis makes it difficult, but these mini bolt cutters are super. I would never have known about them but for some chap at the woodyard who overheard me talking about the nail cutting.

Is Gedore kit available in the US?

BTW - the nails on the shed are difficult to pull out and, as it is quite old and frail (like me) I need a fairly gentle solution!

Peter thank you for posting this, as I would never have known about these. I have damaged loads of side cutters and pliers trying to cut screws, nails etc.

I have checked the Gedore website and am confused as to which model has the higher cutting capacity.

Two models I am looking at are the ones with the 2 component molded handles. These are:-

Gedore 2666324 8340 Z-200 JL Bolt cutter

Gedore 2541300 8340-200 JL Bolt cutter

I take it the Gedore 2666324 8340 Z-200 JL Bolt cutter is the one with the greater cutting capacity denoted by the Z?

Their website has the same description for both models and that is why I am confused. The only difference being the 'Z' and this model being a few pence dearer. Where did you buy yours from and how much did you pay?

The 8340Z Mini Cutter IS available in the US from Gedore Tools, but does not show on their website.  A call to Gedore (866-367-5526) confirmed that they can supply it.  It is, however, currently out of stock.  The product code is 2666324.

Thnaks for the Video Peter... I had never heard of Gedore Tools before.

Personally I'm a big fan of the Knipex range they also have a small pair of Bolt cutters, and also some high Leverage pliers which i find can cut a nail with little effort.

I've had a look at videos of the Knipex bolt cutters on youtube and they are similar to the Gedore ones, but you don't need two cut twice for hard wire as in the Gedore. One snip and its cut. The Gedore can cut 3.8mm Piano wire and the Knipex 3.6mm. Will this 0.2mm extra capacity with the Knipex make a big difference?

It would be cool if Peter or someone could do a comparison test to see which is the better bolt cutters. The Knipex has 8 different versions from angled cutters for flush cutting and sprung ones for comfort especially if you are cutting multiple times.

I was going to buy the Gedore but now seeing the Knipext don't know which one to go for. I am leaning towards the Knipex as it has a larger capacity but will the 0.2 mm extra really maen better?

That pre-crimp capability is what sold me on the Gedore. If you want to use them without the pre-crimp then they are similar to the Knipex but when you have loads of cuts to do the pre-crimp makes life a lot easier.

Thank you Peter for your review and comments, bought the Gedore bolt cutters. The best bolt cutters I have used ever. They are fantastic and ooozing qhality. I bought them on ebay for about £32 incl. postage.

If it was not for your video review I would never have heard of them and never have been a proud owner of a great tool. Thanks again Peter.
