Hello,

I'm trying to apply General's gel top coat. But after drying it gives visible "rug wiping" marks. Is there good technique for gel top coats application or should I fine sand it with 400 grit, then give two coats wipe on poly on top?

Thank you,
VictorL

I apply liberal amount of gel, then wipe it off. Not sure when and how to buff it.

Thanks,

Gel finishes won't level as they dry so you have to be careful not to leave marks after you wipe it off.

I've had good luck with applying only a thin coat of finish and then changing the wiping rag as it loads up with finish. I used to get marks in the finish when I kept using the rag after it was full of the finish.

I like gel finishes because I don't have to worry about marks or runs and I like how smooth it feels after it dries.
