Speaking of Ash....

I just finished two of these.  60" W by 31" H by 17" D.

There are two adjustable shelves behind each door.

My builder friend wanted one stained to match the floor in a row house rehab.  It broke my heart to vandalize perfectly good ash, but....oh, well.

My apologies for the lousy iPhone photos above, the remaining are much better, thanks to my wife.

The door pulls are ebony, the shoji paper is Warlon--the middle thickness.

Half laps and tenons...all the while was wishing I had a domino machine.

The dovetails were routed with my Leigh jig.  For the long boards, the jig was on my Japanese style planing bench, on my two Festool systainers, on my workbench.  I stood one step up on a ladder.  My basement shop has a low ceiling and my head was between the rafters while I routed the tails.  I don't want to do that again.  Ever.

The MFT and parallel guides were a huge help milling the glued up boards to length and width.

Like much of the US, Philadelphia has been in a heat wave all week.  Sanding is never fun, but when it is 102...

Finished with tung oil.

very nice.
i love the second one espescially the grain on the top.
its a shame to have stained the first one but if thats what the client wants.
it could be worse, i have a job on today and tomorrow where i am hard glossing white 40mm solid oak with lots of 1/4 sawn flecks through it and some cats paws in it. its a crying shame but needs must. [crying]

I cant make my mind up if I prefer stained or unstained.   I would have both!

Nice
