I'm getting  a used kapex today. I'm looking forward to setting it up. I also have a digital stop fence from Pro Scale. This should make for one helluva miter station.  [big grin]
The Kapex has seen some hard use and from what I was told it needs new brushes for the motor. can anyone tell me if they are replaceable?

Bill,

You should not have got that Kapex because now we will all be expecting to see some halfway decent projects coming out of your workshop.

That's the idea. I'll stop making the crap I've done for so long.  [big grin] I'm pretty excited. The stop fence is no slouch either.

Bill,

Congrats on the new toys!  I'll be you're gonna love the digital fence with the Kapex.  I have a digital fence on my table saw and it's the best thing since sliced bread!

It will be difficult for you to improve on your work but the new tools might make it easier and more fun.

Thanks but there's always room for improvement [big grin] I'll tell you what, I can really hide my mistakes really well.  [embarassed]

Bill,

Yeah, mistaken for museum pieces.  As usual you are taking the high road.

If they are hidden, are they really a mistake?

Well, I got it today. Joe, my friend I got it from has been busy moving out of his shop. He caught me by supprize and included a RO125 sander as well. I really owe him a big one. I only got to fire it up for a few seconds. It does seem to need brushes but now that I've read the manual on Festools site, I'll give it a once over. Everything I've seen about it so far seems very thoroughly thought out. Anyone ever change the brushes?

Ordered the brushes, a whopping 17 bucks and change. Very fair IMHO. They said they would throw in an owners manual as well. Can't wait to put it in service.

How much do you have to use the Kapex to need new brushes? Just wondering.. Yours was only one year old, right?

I think you would like Rick Christofferson's supplement manual as well.  I can't find the link but do a search.

I got it used from a cabinet shop. My friend Joe build around 4000 pieces of furniture for a hotel here in AZ. It was used aggressively for a year. Other than that, it looks brand new.

I opened it up and changing the brushes will only take a few seconds. Again, very well thought out.

I think that's the one they are sending. If you go to the saw on festoolusa, the link is at the bottom of the page where it's featured. I like to have a copy I can take to the saw though. They were very courteous and helpful. I honestly can say after being a Festool user for a few years now, I have absolutely no complaints.  [big grin]

Bill,

It would do you well to get an online copy of Rick Christopherson's Kapex manual as well.  Good reading on a cool, spring night.  Rick truly has a gift for writing these.

I will do that. Thanks.

just checked it out. Great info. This thing does so much that others just don't do. IMHO money well spent. Now if I can just win the 10k tool contest.  [big grin]
