Getting better content on forum through incentive

Theres been talk of how to redirect the type and quality of content on this forum.

Its occurred to me that tjbnwi is doing that now with his "How not to tile a shower" thread. These types of threads used to be the norm not only here but across all forums. Its become clear to me that good content has value and deserves compensation.

Think of the entire youtube phenomenon... people are simply generating content with enough quality that people tune in.

Because festool owns this forum (right?) they should create a system of accessory/consumable vouchers for good content. Simply incentivize so that people actually take time out of their business hours to document what they are doing and share it on the forum. This is practice is not free for the poster and should be treated as such! Festool could figure out the system in which consumables would be awarded.

Of course, around here no matter what festool did the lawyer crowd would pick it apart, but, i agree, we need better content.

This is an interesting idea, but how do you determine the content that gets compensated?  I guess it would have to be a group that is within festool.  However I would suspect that Festool giving away free stuff from a forum posting would be met with opposition.

I will agree threads like Tom's are extremely valuable, and not as frequent as they used to be.

Number of views would be one way of rating them. You would still need some moderation on the title so that outragous titles didn't score disproportionate views.

top project based posts get put in a raffle every 3 months? seems like a small cost. Give away some sandpaper etc...

you have to admit that project posts on this forum are generating free advertising and content for festool

Seeing as I was mentioned, my take on the subject;

I volunteer all of the information I post freely and without any thought of compensation in any way shape or form.

I do hope someone, somewhere gets something out of them they can use to make their experiences better/easier.

This may seem odd, but I learn more posting what I do than anyone can ever learn from my posts. The reason for this is I have to spend a few seconds thinking about how to get the information across in a logical order without totally butchering the English language.

Sorry to drag you into this, Tom. Its not my fault you have great content! I don't think anyone should get paid really, just tossing around an idea which I think could work best on this forum.

Lumberjocks.com has daily top 3 projects calculated by some combo of views, likes, and comments. Works well. Since this is a tool oriented forum, perhaps "tip of the day/week" etc. with active voting? (Festool bashing will get a lot of passive views).
I'm sceptical of the financial rewards though (conflict of interests with the owners).

Not a good idea. The forum will be flooded with crappy posts copied from other sites with the hopes of compensation. Additionally this falls along the lines of spending someone else's money. This forum like many others start to fall apart as membership rises.

the Canadian Woodworking Magazine forums do this - it's simply a "best build" award every month. You get featured in the magazine and you get a veritas dual marking gauge. Not a massive prize but I'm sure it leads plenty of people to post their builds!

Sounds about right. I have a similar experience, albeit much less participation.
