Give me an excuse to come up with version 2 for this MFT sysport

Nice job Carey!  I've got a couple of sheets of kaizen foam but haven't been able to commit to a layout for it yet.

Carey and Sprior
Excellent job on each. I am currently starting my own mft sysport based on yours. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm gonna copy it closely.

I take it the large front and back sustainer drawer slides are 14" (350mm) Full extension slides?
And the side drawers, are 9" (230mm) full extension? Any reason for full ext here apart from easy access to entire small drawer? I'm looking at cost saving somewhere so I think going full extn on the systainers is what I want, but maybe not for the small side drawers?

Also can you tell me the size of the drawers of the large systainer front/back and smaller sides drawers? I work it to be 412w for the large (199mm ply used) with slides that take up total of 25mm (1") space. Space of area 437.5mm wide. Is this correct?

Not sure on the side drawer sizes?

One final question I am curious, how come you both did not have a longer front width to the drawers so they cover the view of the sliders?

thanks

Here's a cutlist for my MFT Sysport V2.  This includes the 6 accessory drawers, but does not yet include the sliding shelves for the Systainers (haven't built those yet).

Hi [member=14226]sprior[/member] , I have a question on your cut list.  I believe page 2 shows the center vertical divider between the two stacks of drawers to be 400mm long.  Is this how you actually cut this piece?  In looking at the picture of the final product it appears to be longer than this but I am not certain.

Thanks.

The vertical divider that is 400mm long is the one on the end of the unit between the 6 smaller accessory drawers.  I made it not go all the way to the bottom so I'd have a wider space to put my parallel guides.  It would be a nice addition to build a wider drawer for that bottom space, but so far I haven't been motivated to do it.  The unit overall works quite well and I haven't been itching for a version 3.

That's what I thought but is that piece really 400mm long?  It looks like it has to be longer than that.  Here is what my sketchup looks like when I draw that piece to be 400mm.  Thanks.

I checked and the 400mm is accurate for that center rib, but the proportions of your drawing do look off.  Just spotted it, don't know where you got the 764.5mm height, the pieces in my cutlist are 586mm high.

Ok, thanks, I figured out my issue.  When I planned my cart height, I forgot to subtract for the height of the MFT3 with legs removed.  However I believe my casters are smaller than yours because my side pieces are now coming up to be 685.  The height of my cart is....

Top - 19mm (3/4" plywood)
skeleton - 685mm
bottom - 19mm
caster pad - 13mm (1/2" plywood)
Casters - 79.4mm

Cart height - 815.4mm
MFT3 height without legs - 80mm
Total height to match original MFT3 height - 895.4mm

Thanks!

Sprior,

Beautiful project!  I've been away from this forum for a very long time and just happened to see a Pinterest pin about your project.

I had seen several similar projects years ago when the MFT's had first shown up and always intended to make my own.  I love your version 2 and also Carey's rendition.

Did anyone ever make a Sketch up drawing for this project?  The only sketches that I saw were hand sketches that are hard for me to follow.

Thanks,
Roland

Wow, had no idea this was on Pinterest.

Sorry, I never did anything but the hand sketches of the diagram since mine's already built and so far there's nothing I want to change for a version 3.

This is on my list to build :) I can save a lot of space.....

Anyone have dimensions to use pls?

Rgs

Go back through this thread, I posted images of my sketched plans with dimensions.

Thanks for posting this cutlist - I'm building one.  Can I ask a potentially dumb question?  Why did you use maple faced plywood for the drawer bottoms?

Those drawers are small so they didn't need to be thicker than 1/4".  They can be whatever quarter ply you can get your hands on, not sure if mine are actually maple or birch without double checking.

Thanks for the inspiration. I'm nearly done except of the drawers and I like it :-)
I'm not sure whether I build two additional drawers like Carey or not but I will figure out in the nex few days

BTW, if anyone who liked this design wants to see what I'm up to in terms of a Kapex stand with sysport storage, look at this thread.  I'm still building it and already really like it.

Hi Everyone

I thought I would update you on how I have modified my workbench.  I purchased a Paulk workbench from Fastcap and installed that on my sysport.  I had to remove the wheels to get the working height down to ~36".

I much prefer the larger working surface.  I added a Jessem router lift, added t-track for a router fence and put t-track on two sides of the bench.  I also, more by accident than anything, one day came up with an adjustable carrier/rest for the hose.  It is surprisingly helpful to manage the hose while sanding, cutting, etc.

I still have the MFT for occasional off site or outdoor work.

Nice and simple. Great for a finished ceiling shop. My shop has exposed joists so I just hang a bungee to carry the umbilical.
