Going on a pilgrimmage to Highland Woodworking today....

My back hurts this morning from trying to do too much yesterday in the shop. SO.....I figure it's a great opportunity to take a day off from making sawdust and driving up to Atlanta to perform my Hajj by visiting Highland Woodworking for the first time! [tongue]

Not sure whether I should leave the credit cards at home though!! [eek]

If any of you Atlanta boys are around today, I'll be in the store around 1030 or so, and I imagine I'll be in there for at least a couple of hours.  Anyone in for lunch?  I'll be the guy with the Festool T-shirt and hat on! [big grin]

Do I have to bow or kneel before entering?? [big grin]

Great store- I went in December for the first - second and third time while I was visiting Atlanta- tradition is to visit The Varsity restaurant which is very close. Atlanta landmark

Highland was where I bought my second Festool, the T-15 set. Gotta blame Kreg, he dragged me there, I didn't want to go, it was against my will. ;D

I ate a Varsity, I was very disappointed with the place and the food. Seems like Frank had a better experience.

Well.... I have returned home. WOW!!!! That is some kind of WW store!!  I was Sooooooo tempted by so many things, but managed to spend over two hours perusing the store and only spending just under $100 out the door.  It could have easily been a LOT more! [scared] 

One of the reasons for going up there was to figure out the arrangements I will make to purchase a SawStop 5HP ICS saw to replace my 3HP PCS.  I think that Highland is the best option, so I will order as soon as I sell my existing saw...probably in July on my next return from Nigeria.

As another "first", I also visited the Apple Store in Atlanta. This was a long time in coming, as I've been an Appleholic for a lot of years, but have never been in reasonable distance from one of their stores. They repaired one of my computers without waiting, which was awesome!

Having done my pilgrimage to Highland Woodworking, I can heartily recommend a visit should you be in the vicinity of Atlanta. Very friendly and helpful staff, and OH what a selection of tools and accessories...not to mention a very large Festool section! [tongue]

I said this before on another thread...

Don't eat Varsity (particularly the onion rings) before you catch a flight home!!  The longest short trip ever!!  Oh yeah and when you use napkins, they turn translucent from the grease.  ;^)

I had lunch across the street at Genki...supposed Japanese noodle and sushi restaurant.  The owners have taken a great deal of artistic license in calling it Japanese! [huh]  (I have spent a total of 15 years off and on living in Japan, and I don't care for "faux" Japanese.)

I did have the Hamachi Kama, (Cooked Yellowtail Collar) which was well prepared and somewhat Japanesy....but the sushi rice and rolls, made by mexican chefs was simply awful. Sushi is all about the rice...and they clearly don't have a clue! My recommendation is to avoid this small chain if you want authentic and well prepared Japanese food.

Seems like one of the places ya gotta go to. Not because it's good but to experience it and be able to talk about it how "unique" the food is.

Like Ma &Pa's near the Richmond Va airport. Cigarette Smoke filled Resturaunt, waitresses with at least one tooth missing nicely built toI might add, very greazy carpet, but the best home cooked food I've had anywhere. If ya can handle the ambiance of the place.
